Position Title: Culture and Heritage Coordinator

PURPOSE
Reporting to the Manager of Culture and Heritage, the Coordinator, Culture and Heritage is responsible for supporting the day-to-day administrative and program functions of the Culture and Heritage Department. This includes assisting with program coordination, organizing events and activities, maintaining records, and supporting community engagement initiatives. The Coordinator ensures that departmental activities align with the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, as well as applicable legislation, policies, and procedures. Working closely with internal teams and community partners, the Coordinator contributes to the effective delivery of cultural and heritage programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the planning and delivery of cultural heritage and language programs, including oral history projects, land-based knowledge research, cultural camps, and related events.
- Supports program alignment with the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement, departmental goals, and the Gwich’in Traditional Knowledge Policy.
- Assists with community engagement by liaising with Elders, youth, Gwich’in Participants, and local organizations to ensure culturally appropriate programming.
- Helps gather community feedback to support ongoing program development and improvement.
- Provides general administrative and logistical support, including scheduling, meeting preparation, travel arrangements, and coordination of internal and external communications.
- Assists in organizing community consultations, meetings, and events tied to culture, heritage, and language initiatives.
- Maintains records of heritage sites, program activities, reports, and archives (both digital and physical), ensuring compliance with GTC guidelines and cultural protocols.
- Supports the preparation of project budgets, funding proposals, outcome reports, and submission tracking.
- Coordinates logistics and participates in working groups, community meetings, and other relevant forums as required.
- Assists in the development of promotional and communication materials to raise awareness of Culture and Heritage initiatives.
- Supports collaboration with external agencies, contractors, and community partners involved in heritage or language-related projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- General understanding of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement and its relevance to facility operations
- Certificate or diploma in Business Administration, Project Coordination, or a related field (preferred)
- Post-secondary education in the humanities, social sciences, or a related field
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in a support or coordination role, ideally in a camp, hospitality, or recreation setting
- Exposure to project coordination, budget tracking, and facility support tasks
- Wilderness First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Awareness of workplace health and safety practices (training is an asset)
- Basic knowledge of financial systems and budgeting principles
- Experience using booking platforms, scheduling tools, or asset tracking systems
