About the Role
The Infracon Group of Companies is seeking experienced Finishing Excavator Operators for potential upcoming civil construction, mining, and pipeline maintenance work across Western Canada.
This role is best suited for a skilled operator with strong finishing experience and the ability to complete precise excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, ditching, sloping, and site preparation work in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidate will be confident working around active construction operations, underground utilities, roadways, pipelines, structures, grades, and other equipment.
Our projects may include road construction, earthworks, drainage, utility installation, pipeline maintenance, mine support work, site development, and civil infrastructure upgrades. We are looking for operators who take pride in quality workmanship, understand the importance of safe production, and can work well with supervisors, surveyors, labourers, truck drivers, pipe crews, and other equipment operators.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced operators who enjoy varied project work and are open to supporting projects in different locations throughout Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Excavator Operation
- Operate excavators safely and efficiently to support civil construction, mining, and pipeline maintenance activities
- Perform finishing work, including precise grading, shaping, sloping, trenching, backfilling, ditching, and material placement
- Work to grade using stakes, plans, GPS, laser, or direction from supervisors and survey teams
- Complete detailed excavation around utilities, pipelines, culverts, structures, and active work areas
- Support road construction, drainage improvements, site development, earthworks, and infrastructure projects
- Load trucks, place material, clean up work areas, and support production as required
- Work safely around workers on foot, traffic, other equipment, slopes, excavations, and changing ground conditions
Finishing & Grade Work
- Complete accurate finishing work to meet project specifications and quality standards
- Perform final shaping, grading, and clean-up of ditches, slopes, subgrades, pads, trenches, and road surfaces
- Read and understand basic grade stakes, markings, drawings, and field direction
- Maintain strong attention to detail when working near utilities, pipelines, structures, or tight work areas
- Identify potential issues with grade, drainage, access, or site conditions and communicate them to supervision
- Support efficient sequencing of work to reduce rework and keep the project moving
Project & Crew Support
- Work closely with supervisors, forepersons, labourers, pipe crews, truck drivers, and other operators
- Support safe and efficient field operations across civil, mining, and pipeline maintenance projects
- Communicate clearly with spotters, ground crews, and other equipment operators
- Assist with general site coordination and practical problem-solving in the field
- Adapt to changing project requirements, site conditions, weather, and work priorities
- Represent the Infracon Group of Companies professionally on project sites
Equipment Care & Maintenance
- Complete daily equipment inspections and pre-use checks
- Report equipment deficiencies, damage, maintenance issues, or safety concerns promptly
- Maintain equipment in a clean, safe, and work-ready condition
- Follow proper start-up, shut-down, fueling, and maintenance procedures
- Operate equipment within safe working limits and manufacturer guidelines
- Help identify maintenance needs early to minimize downtime
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company, client, and project safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, field-level hazard assessments, and site orientations
- Maintain strong situational awareness in active construction, mining, and pipeline environments
- Work safely around underground and overhead utilities, pipelines, excavations, traffic, slopes, and mobile equipment
- Use required personal protective equipment at all times
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork
What You Bring
- Strong finishing excavator operating experience in civil construction, mining, earthworks, road construction, utility, or pipeline environments
- Ability to complete precise grading, trenching, backfilling, ditching, sloping, and material placement
- Experience working to grade and around survey stakes, site markings, GPS, or laser systems
- Strong understanding of safe excavation practices and working around utilities or pipelines
- Ability to work safely and productively around ground crews, truck traffic, and other equipment
- Good communication skills and ability to follow direction
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to travel for project-based work
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
- Ability to adapt to changing field conditions and project priorities
- Team-oriented attitude with a strong commitment to safe production
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a finishing excavator operator is required
- Experience in civil construction, mining, pipeline maintenance, road construction, drainage, utilities, or earthworks is strongly preferred
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation are preferred
- Equipment operator training or relevant certifications are considered an asset
- Ground Disturbance, CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid, H2S Alive, or other safety certifications are considered assets depending on project requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Ability to travel to project locations throughout Western Canada as required
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Drug and alcohol testing may be required depending on client, site, or project requirements
Working Conditions
- Project-based work in various locations throughout Western Canada
- Potential project areas may include Hope, 100 Mile House, Merritt, Dawson Creek, Kamloops, and surrounding regions
- Work may take place in civil construction, mining, industrial, pipeline, roadwork, or remote project environments
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, mud, and uneven terrain
- Exposure to active equipment, traffic, noise, slopes, excavations, and changing site conditions
- Shift schedules, rotations, overtime, and travel requirements may vary by project
- Living out allowance, camp, travel, or other project-specific arrangements may apply depending on location and project terms
Compensation & Benefits
- Wage range of $37.00 – $41.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
