Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician / Millwright to join our manufacturing team. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of industrial equipment to ensure optimal plant operations. The Maintenance Technician / Millwright is a critical, hands-on role responsible for the preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all production equipment in a high-precision CNC machine shop. This position combines advanced millwright skills with broad mechanical and electrical aptitude to ensure maximum machine uptime, precision calibration, and a safe, functional facility. The technician acts as the first line of defense against equipment failures and plays a direct role in sustaining production quality and throughput.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
▪ Execute structured PM schedules for all CNC and manual machines per OEM specifications
▪ Perform lubrication, filter changes, coolant maintenance, and spindle inspections on schedule
▪ Conduct geometric and backlash checks; maintain alignment records for all machine axes
▪ Utilize vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and oil sampling to identify developing failures
▪ Maintain detailed maintenance logs and update CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) records
Corrective Maintenance & Troubleshooting
▪ Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults on CNC and manual equipment
▪ Troubleshoot CNC control systems (Fanuc, Siemens, Etc.) for alarms and errors
▪ Rebuild or replace spindle assemblies, ball screws, linear guides, servo drives, and tool changers
▪ Respond to production-floor breakdown calls with a sense of urgency to minimize unplanned downtime
▪ Collaborate with machine operators and programmers to diagnose recurring accuracy or finish issues
Millwright & Precision Alignment
▪ Install, level, and commission new or relocated CNC machines to OEM geometric tolerances
▪ Perform precision shaft and coupling alignment using laser alignment tools
▪ Fabricate and fit mechanical components, brackets, guards, and fixtures using shop equipment
▪ Re-bed and grout machine bases; install anchor bolts and isolation mounts
▪ Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic/pneumatic schematics
Facility & Shop Maintenance
▪ Maintain compressed air systems: dryers, filters, distribution lines, and pressure regulation
▪ Monitor and service coolant concentration, tramp oil levels, and central coolant systems
▪ Perform minor electrical work: replace outlets, lighting, panel breakers (within code and qualification)
▪ Maintain overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment — inspections and certifications
▪ Coordinate with external contractors for larger electrical, HVAC, or structural repairs
▪ Ensure fire suppression, eyewash stations, and safety systems are functional and compliant
Parts, Inventory & Documentation
▪ Maintain adequate spare parts inventory for critical machine components
▪ Source and procure parts from vendors; evaluate quality and lead times
▪ Write clear work orders documenting root cause, corrective action, and parts used
▪ Generate equipment history reports and contribute to reliability improvement initiatives
Safety & Compliance
▪ Follow and enforce all OSHA, company, and machine-specific Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
▪ Maintain personal and area cleanliness consistent with 5S standards
▪ Immediately report and address safety hazards; participate in incident investigations
▪ Adhere to all PPE requirements for specific tasks (arc flash, confined space, chemical handling)
Qualifications & Experience
▪ High school diploma or GED required; Technical/Trade School diploma preferred
▪ Journeyman Millwright Certificate or equivalent documented apprenticeship (4+ years) strongly preferred
▪ Valid forklift operator certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
▪ Overhead crane / hoist operator certification an asset
▪ Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a precision machining or industrial manufacturing environment
▪ Demonstrated hands-on experience with CNC machine repair (Fanuc, Siemens, or equivalent controls)
▪ Proven millwright skills: precision leveling, alignment, rigging, and machine installation
▪ Experience servicing hydraulic and pneumatic systems in industrial machinery
▪ Familiarity with gear-cutting machines (hobbers, shapers) is a significant asset
Technical Skills
▪ Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams
▪ Proficiency with precision measuring instruments: dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment tools
▪ Competency in MIG/TIG welding and basic machining for fabrication tasks
▪ Working knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems up to 480V (non-licensed electrical work within scope)
▪ Experience with CMMS software (MP2, eMaint, Fiix, or similar)
