Shift: Monday- Friday; 7:00am-3:30pm
Temporary position until January 30, 2027
SUMMARY:
The Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing general indoor and outdoor maintenance at the terminal location. This role ensures that the facility, equipment, and surrounding areas remain in good condition, meet safety standards, and operate efficiently. The Building Maintenance Worker works closely with the Terminal Manager, Yard Supervisor, and other staff to address maintenance needs and support the overall upkeep of the terminal.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct daily inspections, documenting required maintenance and security concerns.
- Perform general building maintenance according to the Procedures Manual set out by the Terminal Manager.
- Assist with the maintenance and repairs of Erb’s buildings, equipment, and tools, including landscaping, vehicles, generators, lifting equipment, and other facility-related assets.
- Maintain and submit daily and weekly reports.
- Address and follow up on monthly Health & Safety Committee inspection items..
- Ensure entrances, exits, and all facility areas are clean, clear, and free of hazards.
- Obtain quotes for materials and hardware needed for repairs, communicating major repairs and purchases with the Terminal Manager.
- Perform facility cleaning tasks not covered by contract cleaners.
- Assist in various snow removal operations, including the use of loaders, snow scrapers, pick-ups, salt spreaders, and shovels to clear walkways, entrances, exits, and parking areas.
- Maintain terminal grounds, including garbage collection, grass cutting, and trimming. Regularly empty garbage and recycling bins as needed.
- Coordinate with yard and shunting staff regarding wash bay supplies and equipment. Ensure the wash bay pit is cleaned weekly and free of hazards.
- Perform pre-trip inspections on all equipment before use, including loaders, pick-ups, and landscaping tools, and report any deficiencies.
- Conduct battery cell tests and washes for all forklifts, documenting results and reporting issues to the Dock Supervisor and Terminal Manager.
- Assist with administrative duties, including filing, ordering parts and supplies, scheduling external maintenance services, and conducting research as required.
- Support the Yard Supervisor in maintaining the HVAC system, warehouse refrigeration system, gate, forklifts, and other equipment.
- Assist in training new employees on facility maintenance procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) year of experience in various general building and yard equipment repairs.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in terms of importance.
- Able to perform physical requirements (lifting 50+ lbs., shovelling, working on ladders, etc.).
- Ability to perform repairs (caulking, painting, replacing light fixtures, etc.).
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform basic computer functions.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Hourly based on 40 hours of work. Hours may vary.
- Overtime may be required.
- Ability to work in various conditions (inside, outside, cold storage, freezer, etc.).
