We are seeking an Engineer, Production Norms to play a key role in improving efficiency, accuracy, and consistency across shipbuilding production activities. In this role, you will design, analyze, and refine production norms that support planning, fabrication, painting, and build module operations. You’ll work independently with general guidance, applying engineering expertise, analytical thinking, and a continuous improvement mindset within a complex shipbuilding environment.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys bridging theory and practice, working closely with planning and production teams, and using data-driven insights to improve industrial performance.
- Maintain, enhance, and validate production norm calculators for CUT, Paint, and BMODs
- Review existing norms and develop new production norms as business needs evolve
- Monitor production activities and conduct time studies to support norm refinement and process improvement
- Support the development of CUT and FAB production processes, including associated work instructions, to drive efficiency and consistency
- Provide training and ongoing support to Planning teams on the effective use of norm calculation tools
- Lead engagement sessions with Production stakeholders to review baseline norms and interpret calculator outputs
- Analyze production performance data and observations to continuously improve accuracy and reliability of norms
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or equivalent (required or in progress)
- 4–10 years of demonstrated experience in ship design, ship construction, or a similarly complex industrial/manufacturing environment
- Applied engineering experience with exposure to manufacturing or production environments
- Understanding of shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, and facility/resource capacity
- Familiarity with scheduling principles, ability to manage timelines, and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to interpret and navigate production drawings, PBOMs, and 3D models
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills, including the ability to perform statistical analysis of production data
