As part of our growth, we are currently seeking a Production Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION: Production Engineer
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Operations
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
This individual will be essential for bridging the gap between a relatively unstructured production environment to a structured environment and will be key in the upcoming transition to an ERP driven process.
The Production Engineer works with customer’s design engineering, MilAero Quality Assurance and Production teams to design, monitor, and optimize the assembly processes for existing and new product lines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate customers’ new wire harness, cable, and black box product designs and advise on their suitability for production.
- Estimate costs, production times, lead times and/or or staffing requirements for new customer products.
- Investigate new techniques and equipment to ensure that the Company’s manufacturing philosophy incorporates relevant current best practice.
- Lead the transition from customers’ engineering product design to manufacturing of product. This includes the optimal development of routings and structures for use by Procurement and Production while ensuring that Quality Standards and configuration traceability requirements are met.
- Designing new processes, procedures and assembly systems while taking a lead role in implementation, including training of Shop Floor employees and Support Staff.
- Overall production process layout design; individual work cell design; and production line balancing .
- Development, design and implementation of Production Jigs and Fixtures to ensure and/or improve safety, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Developing, modifying and updating work instructions required for qualified Technicians to assemble and test product.
- Support production in lead time improvements through the application of Lean Six Sigma principles to identify and eliminating waste (non-value added activities).
- Identify root cause of product and process non-conformances and inspection rejects; make recommendation for corrective actions.
- Work with Supply Chain’s Procurement and Warehouse teams to improve the material flow and reduce inventory.
- Actively participate as a subject matter expert in ERP system transition in 18-32 months.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- The following qualifications and skills are considered essential to the role:
- Three (3) or more years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer/Technologist or similar role in an industrial environment.
- Experience and proficiency in production line, workstation, and factory layout set up
- Experience and proficiency in applying project management principles to product line start up.
- Experience and proficiency in the application of Lean Six Sigma principles in fostering continuous improvement.
- Experience and proficiency in Aerospace and Defense Electronics assembly environment and its associate controls and audit regime in accordance with AS9100 certification.
- Experience and proficiency in writing standard operating procedures and detailed technical instructions.
- Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
- The following qualifications and skills would be considered a definite asset in the role:
- Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- Degree in another Engineering discipline with significant related manufacturing experience in the Aerospace and Defence wire harness assembly industry sector.
- Experience and/or formal certification as a Specialist, Instructor, Inspector, or Standard Specialist in IPC-610, IPC-612; J-Std-001; or similar.
- Lean-6-Sigma Certification (Yellow, Green, or Black Belt) or Certified Continuous Improvement Manager (CCIM).
- Formal Project Management skill certification (PMP, etc.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This role is approximately 50% office-based and 50% on Production floor.
- Regular interactions on Production floor and Warehouse staff at all levels.
