The West Vancouver Parks Department is accepting applications for two Permanent, Full-Time skilled Carpenter III positions. The Carpenter III would help lead the Carpentry and Trails team. This position requires application of fundamental trade practices as it relates to general carpentry and Park construction work. Construction and repair could include renovation, repair and maintenance of Parks infrastructure, furniture, playground equipment, bridges, boardwalks, stairs, and trail construction across West Vancouver.
The Carpenter III exercises considerable independent judgement and directs the work of other staff in the Carpentry and Trails area and must be prepared to perform work of a manual nature in all types of weather.
The preferred applicant will have the following qualifications:
- Considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general construction, carpentry and trail construction and maintenance;
- Considerable knowledge of hazards and proper safety precautions of the carpentry trade;
- The ability to plan and construct a variety of wooden structures, including but not limited to trail bridges, stairs, boardwalks, railings, sign kiosks, fencing, concrete formwork;
- The ability to read and work from construction drawings;
- Skill in the use and care of hand tools, power tools and related equipment essential to carpentry;
- The ability to assign and supervise the work of a small team of carpentry staff; and,
- The ability to keep simple records of daily work.
The successful candidate will have High School Diploma and has completed a recognized apprenticeship in Carpentry, plus considerable work experience;a Red Seal Certificate in Carpentry and a valid class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
