Superintendent (Commercial Construction)
A well-established and respected construction firm is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee on-site operations for commercial and institutional projects. This leadership role is responsible for coordinating subcontractors and site teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead site safety initiatives by implementing and enforcing a comprehensive safety program
- Foster strong working relationships with subcontractors and field staff to maintain a positive and productive site environment
- Supervise, mentor, and develop site personnel through coaching, training, and performance evaluations
- Support the development and ongoing management of project schedules
- Administer contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, site instructions, and change orders
- Identify and communicate design issues, scheduling conflicts, and site challenges; collaborate with project leadership to resolve
- Monitor subcontractor performance, ensuring adherence to safety, scope, and quality expectations
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and material quality
- Ensure appropriate manpower levels to meet project milestones
- Complete and maintain all required site documentation, including daily reports, safety inspections, and schedule updates
Qualifications
- Progressive experience as a Superintendent within general contracting, focused on commercial and/or institutional projects
- Experience managing large-scale builds; P3 and Design-Build experience is considered an asset
- Trade background (carpentry preferred) and/or Gold Seal Certification is an asset
- Strong ability to manage construction activities to meet deadlines, budgets, and client expectations
- Proven leadership, problem-solving, and team development capabilities
- Solid understanding of construction methods, drawings, and specifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Project
