An exciting opportunity exists at Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP for motivated and dependable individuals to join our team as Night Shift Traffic Control Persons. This is a 2-month seasonal summer position based out of our Rocky View County, Alberta yard and reporting directly to the Road Manager. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing traffic control support for nighttime road maintenance and construction activities, ensuring the safe movement of traffic through work zones while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
Mainroad Chinook Contracting LP is contracted by Chinook Highway Operations Inc. – a partnership between SNC-Lavalin Operations & Maintenance Inc. and Acciona Concessions Canada (2008) Inc. Mainroad Chinook takes pride in providing a variety of services such as road repair, snow removal and lighting maintenance for the Southeast Stoney Trail. The Southeast Stoney Trail Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between the Alberta Government and Chinook Roads Partnership and is one of the largest single P3 highway infrastructure projects in Alberta’s history.

The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driver's abstract is required.
- Minimum two (2) years of general labour experience.
- Traffic Control Person (TCP)/Flagging certification and related experience is considered an asset. (In-house training is available.)
- Previous highway maintenance, road construction, or related industry experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Alberta Traffic Safety Act, Motor Vehicle Act, and applicable regulations is an asset.
- Ability to obtain and accurately document information related to motor vehicle collisions and incidents.
- Ability and willingness to work night shifts, with occasional day and afternoon shifts as required.
- Ability to work call-outs, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Willingness to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Capable of performing physically demanding work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Reliable, dependable, and committed to maintaining a high standard of work.
Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform traffic control and flagging duties during highway maintenance, construction, and emergency response activities.
- Perform a variety of general labour and highway maintenance duties including weed trimming, grass cutting, litter pick-up, shrub and tree maintenance, fence repair, highway surface maintenance, embankment repairs, and other assigned maintenance tasks.
- Assist with shoulder maintenance, drainage maintenance, highway patrolling, and other related roadway maintenance activities.
- Accurately report and document any equipment malfunctions, maintenance requirements, repairs, damage, or cleaning needs using designated reporting procedures.
- Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition, including greasing and checking fluid levels as required.
- Ensure vehicles are stocked with the necessary tools, materials, and supplies required to perform assigned duties safely and effectively.
- Perform debris removal, pothole repairs, minor equipment maintenance, and other planned or emergency highway maintenance activities in accordance with contract specifications.
- Secure all materials, equipment, and tools prior to leaving the yard and during transportation between work locations.
- Complete all assigned highway maintenance activities in accordance with contract specifications, company procedures, and required response times.
- Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations to help maintain public safety.
- Monitor weather and road conditions and prepare appropriately by selecting the proper vehicles, equipment, materials, and personal protective equipment for the task.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices while maintaining a strong commitment to the health and safety of coworkers and the travelling public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
