Summary
Ulnooweg Development Group is seeking an organized, creative, and motivated student to join our team as a Communications & Marketing Intern for the Fall 2026 co-op work term.
This placement provides hands-on experience in communications, marketing, and event coordination. Working alongside the Communications team, the student will help share stories, create content, support events, and contribute to initiatives that celebrate Indigenous entrepreneurship, education initiatives, philanthropy, and community impact across Atlantic Canada.

About the Role
The Communications & Marketing Intern will support the planning, promotion, and delivery of Ulnooweg communications activities, events, campaigns, and community initiatives.
Working closely with the Communications team across the organization, the student will gain experience in digital marketing, social media, content development, storytelling, event coordination, photography and video support, public relations, and community engagement.
This role provides mentorship, practical workplace experience, and opportunities to contribute ideas while developing professional communications skills.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate may assist with:
Event Planning & Community Engagement
- Support the planning and coordination of upcoming events, workshops, celebrations, and outreach activities.
- Assist with event logistics including registration, schedules, materials, signage, vendors, and participant communications.
- Support event preparation, setup, and day-of coordination.
- Assist with outreach involving Indigenous communities, partners, schools, entrepreneurs, and organizations.
- Support engagement with participants, speakers, sponsors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners.
- Attend select events to support storytelling, engagement, and relationship building.
Communications & Marketing
- Create content for social media, websites, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Draft communications including social media posts, articles, event materials, profiles, and stories.
- Support storytelling initiatives by collecting participant stories, testimonials, photos, and video content.
- Assist with photography and video activities during programs and events.
- Support website updates and digital content organization.
- Maintain communication calendars, content schedules, and project timelines.
- Assist with maintaining consistent branding across communications materials.
Research & Administrative Support
- Conduct research to support communications, sponsorship, and engagement initiatives.
- Assist with preparing presentations, reports, and background materials.
- Support partnership and sponsorship-related communications.
- Maintain contact lists, digital files, and project resources.
- Assist with meeting coordination, event preparation, and project tracking.
- Support additional communications projects as assigned.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate is:
- Interested in communications, marketing, event planning, public relations, digital media, or community engagement.
- Passionate about supporting Indigenous communities and sharing meaningful stories.
- Creative, organized, and eager to learn.
- A strong written and verbal communicator.
- Comfortable learning new digital tools and platforms.
- Able to balance priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, graphic design tools, photography, or video editing software is considered an asset, but not required.

Conditions of Employment
Work Conditions
- Hybrid/remote work environment with some in-person meetings and activities in the Halifax area.
- Occasional travel within Nova Scotia may be required.
- Some evening or weekend availability may be required for events.
- Regular use of computers, digital platforms, and communication tools.
- Some lifting and movement of event materials may be required.
Eligibility
This position is supported through the Nova Scotia Co-operative Education Incentive (CEI) Program. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary co-operative education program and eligible to complete a Fall 2026 co-op work term.
Students are encouraged to confirm their co-op eligibility with their institution’s Co-op Coordinator before applying.
The successful candidate will be required to provide documentation confirming enrollment in an eligible co-op work term.
