Summary
The Painter - Structural Steel is responsible for preparing, coating, and finishing structural steel components used in manufacturing. This includes surface preparation, mixing and applying coatings, and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare steel surfaces by cleaning, sanding, blasting, and masking.
- Operate specialized equipment including sandblasters and industrial spray guns safely.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance on painting equipment.
- Mix protective coatings including primers and epoxies per specifications.
- Apply appropriate primers to maximize paint adhesion and corrosion resistance.
- Monitor drying times to ensure proper curing of all applied coatings.
- Inspect finished work for coating uniformity, adhesion, and proper coverage.
- Ensure quality standards and exact project specifications are met consistently.
- Coordinate painting schedules through direct collaboration with fabrication and installation teams.
- Utalize material handling equipment such as (Overhead Crane & Combilift)
- Maintain a clean environment adhering strictly to all workplace safety protocols.
- Utilize proper PPE and ensure adequate ventilation during application processes.
- Label hazardous materials properly and manage safe storage compliance.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent credential required.
- Industrial painting experience specifically with structural steel or manufacturing.
- Steel fabrication background including industrial finishing environment exposure.
- Ability to safely operate heavy lifting equipment ( Overheard Crane, Combilift, Forklift, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Additional Information
- CMB has two manufacturing locations this role is at 540 Seaman Street.
