Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit charitable community services agency established since 1976. Our spectrum of services has grown from the delivery of Chinese meals-on-wheels service to a full range of community support services, covering the whole Greater Toronto Area.
With a staff of more than 550 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the help of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors, adults, youth with physical, social, emotional and health challenges. 3,000 of whom are “home-bound” and frail.
We are currently seeking a Home Helper to fill our vacant position at our Home Care team.
Terms: Casual
Pay range : $17.6 – $19 hourly
Responsibilities:
Provide in-home services to clients as per their requests for assistance. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Rendering home help services to clients according to service order (e.g. cleaning, organizing, defrosting refrigerator, cleaning stove, sink, counter tops, toilet and bathtub, cleaning windows at reachable/reasonable height, washing, drying and putting away dishes)

Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors. Dusting and wiping furniture

Making beds and changing bedsheets

Laundry and ironing (e.g. soaking soiled garments, machine-wash and dry, putting clean laundry away and perform minor mending)

Meal and snack preparation as needed

Assisting in preparing grocery list, doing grocery shopping, and putting them away

Garbage disposal. recycling and using the green bin where applicable
Requirements:

Experience in housekeeping duties and preparing meals

Possess a valid Food Handler’s certificate

Demonstrates a caring attitude, and good interpersonal skills

Demonstrate good judgement, able to work independently and cooperatively with the Home Care team

Flexible working hours with availability to work shift hours, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays

Must be able to travel from home-to-home on a daily basis to service clients in the York Region, Scarborough, and Downtown Toronto areas

Ability to speak a language that reflects the community served, eg. Cantonese, Mandarin, is an asset
-
A valid vulnerable sector police record check completed within one year

Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
