MICHIKAN WIICHIHIWEHWIN (MW) Program – Band Representative Location: Sioux Lookout
Bearskin Lake First Nation MW Band Rep program is seeking an individual who has an outstanding work ethic and is a dedicated worker to employ as a MW program Band Representative. Application deadline will be by Friday November 8, 2024, at 5:00 PM Eastern time.
The MW program Band Representative is a full-time position that reports directly to the MW Program Supervisor. The MW program Band Representative will provide:
Ø Acting on behalf of our children and our First Nation with all child welfare matters within Canada. Helping families better understand the child welfare system and guide them through legal matters. Ensuring that customary care is the first option for families involved with any child welfare agency within our country.
Ø Ensure that Bearskin Lake First Nation band members are educated about their rights
Ø Coordinate case management conferences with all community service providers that are involved to prepare, serve and file additions or amendments to the plan of care
Ø Liaise with other Band Reps, agencies & legal counsel
Ø Help connect community members seeking to offer their homes as kin care or customary care placements.
Ø Completion and filing of the court forms and correspondence as required to support the program.
Ø Report to the Band Rep Manager or Chief & Council as directed
Ø Excellent communication skills that include both written and verbal in order to be effective at negotiation, advocacy, facilitation, and collection and dissemination of information
Ø And other reasonable duties as may be assigned including an Advisor role under the Personnel Policy
Ø High School graduation diploma (grade 12)
Ø Experience in child welfare.
Ø Experience in the use of computers & software (Excel, Word)
Ø Good written & oral communication skills
Ø Willing to travel for training and/or work.
Conditions of Employment
Successful Candidates will submit:
1. CPIC Required, vulnerable sector within last 6 months
2. 3 References from previous employer including most recent supervisor
3. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation and valid insurance
