Job Overview:
Small But Mighty Childcare Foundation seeks experienced and passionate individuals to join our expanding childcare team. Individuals must possess knowledge of the Reggio Emilia philosophy and engage in a reflective practice that continually meets their students' ever-changing needs and interests. We are looking for motivated educators who seek to create nurturing learning environments, and respectful connections with families, and who aim to be part of a mutually supportive team of early childhood educators.
- Casual substitute roles include: 7:00 -4:00, 8:30 - 5:30, working with a variety of age groups
Responsibilities:
- Well-versed in the Reggio Emilia approach, Small But Mighty's inquiry-based educational philosophy and Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework
- Create a nurturing, positive and engaging classroom environment for all children
- Employ a variety of age-appropriate educational techniques to engage, guide and teach children
- Lead children through large and small group learning activities
- Support children in understanding learning activities and/ or adapt information and materials to meet the needs of individual children
- Support children with regulating emotions and developing social skills by acting in accordance with Small But Mighty's Child Behaviour Policy and participating in training on self-regulation and social-thinking skills
- Provide comfort to children with compassion and offer support through calm guidance
- Support children as they work toward individualized goals and strategies
- Observe and document learning and progress
- Prepare for lessons by organizing materials and equipment
- Supervise the class to ensure all children are safe during any given activity
- Ensure the well-being of all children in your care and provide daily care in terms of diapering, toileting, feeding, guiding nap schedules, etc. depending on age group
- Respectfully collaborate with other educators
- Help maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
- Fully understand and safely implement our Health Policies and Safety Procedures as well as act in accordance with Licensing requirements
- Attend training and professional development sessions when required
- Connect and collaborate with parents and caregivers to provide updates and create support plans
Experience:
- All potential staff members will need to possess their Level 1, 2, or 3 Early Childhood Educator Certificate from the Government of Alberta. For more information, and the educational requirements for each level, please see:
*Please note certification can be obtained after hiring, however, the candidate will be required to provide the necessary proof of education
- 2 + years experience working in a daycare, classroom or early learning setting and/ or working with children with diverse needs
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR - Level C Certification (can be obtained within a designated time frame)
- Clearance from a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check (current within the last six months)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience working with speech, communication, language, and social skill development an asset
- Possess patience, empathy and a positive attitude, as well as a passion for working with children in the field of teaching and learning
- Be committed to the progress and inclusion of all students, and to contributing to a supportive team environment
