We're a YouTube channel focused on scripted narrative and documentary-style storytelling about video games. Our content covers the history, culture, and emotion behind the games people love — evergreen stories built to last. Think long-form, researched, cinematic. We're a small team that cares deeply about quality.
The role
We're looking for a freelance video editor who can take a finished script and recorded voiceover and build a complete, polished YouTube video from the ground up. You'll be responsible for sourcing gameplay footage, B-roll, archival material, and any other visual assets needed to tell the story — then cutting it all into a cohesive, engaging edit that matches the tone and pacing of our channel.
This is a production role. The creative direction and narrative are already set when the edit begins. Your job is to bring the story to life visually.
What you'll do
- Receive a finalized script and voiceover recording and produce a complete video edit ready for review
- Source and cut gameplay footage, screen recordings, trailers, and archival game content that matches the script beat by beat
- Find and incorporate relevant B-roll, documentary-style cutaways, and supplemental visuals to support the narration
- Apply music, sound design, and atmospheric audio to enhance pacing and emotional tone
- Handle titles, lower thirds, basic motion graphics, and on-screen text in line with our channel style
- Deliver a polished first cut with revisions based on feedback from our creative lead
- Work within deadlines and communicate proactively if timelines shift
What we're looking for
- A genuine passion for video games — you need to understand the games, studios, and culture our videos cover
- Strong editorial instincts: you know how to match footage to narration, control pacing, and keep a viewer engaged across a 15–25 minute video
- Experience sourcing gameplay and game-related footage from YouTube, Twitch VODs, press kits, and similar sources
- Proficiency in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent professional editing software
- A portfolio that demonstrates long-form narrative or documentary-style editing — gaming niche strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently and deliver a full, polished edit with minimal direction once a script and VO are in hand
- Clear written communication and responsiveness throughout production
Nice to have
- Familiarity with esports history, competitive gaming, or classic game development stories
- Experience with motion graphics or After Effects for title sequences and overlays
- An existing library of game footage or strong knowledge of where to find rare archival material
- Previous work on YouTube channels in the 100K–1M subscriber range
