About The Role:
Station Place Long-Term Care Home is seeking an Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Lead to join our dedicated care team for a 12-18-month contract.
In this role, you will lead the Home’s infection prevention and control program by supporting best practices in surveillance, outbreak management, and staff education. You will work closely with the Director of Care and interdisciplinary team to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and high-quality resident care.
Working in collaboration with leadership, staff, and Public Health, you will help ensure compliance with legislative requirements while proactively identifying risks, monitoring trends, and implementing strategies to prevent and control infections.
This is a meaningful opportunity to work both independently and as part of a supportive team, contributing directly to resident safety, staff education, and continuous quality improvement within the Home.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and oversee the Home’s Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) program, including the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and practices
· Develop, coordinate, and maintain infection surveillance systems, including routine auditing, compliance monitoring, and reporting
· Monitor, analyze, and report on infection trends, outbreaks, and risk factors, recommending and supporting quality improvement initiatives
· Collaborate with the local Public Health Unit and internal leadership to manage outbreaks and coordinate response efforts in partnership with the Director of Care
· Develop, deliver, and evaluate IPAC education, training, and orientation programs for staff in alignment with legislation, organizational standards, and best practices
· Monitor staff compliance with IPAC standards, including hand hygiene, PPE use, cleaning and disinfection practices, and biomedical waste disposal, and provide reports to leadership and IPAC Committees
· Coordinate IPAC-related initiatives, including immunization programs, annual flu clinics, and mask fit testing
· Prepare and present reports and updates for the Director of Care, leadership team, and IPAC Committee to support decision-making and regulatory compliance
Qualifications
· Education and/or experience in infection prevention and control, including infectious diseases, outbreak management, epidemiology, microbiology, and program management
· Post-secondary education in nursing, microbiology, epidemiology, medical technology, or other related health sciences preferred
· Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the CNO
· Must have certification or be willing to obtain certification in infection control from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology within 3 years
· Experience working in long-term care and/or with older adults and cognitively impaired populations considered an asset
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate data effectively
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
