Job Summary
Our leading chemical manufacturing company located in Pickering is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious General Labourer to support daily plant operations. In this role, you will perform machine operations, manage material handling, and ensure the production floor remains clean, organized, and compliant with all workplace safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Handling: Transport raw materials, chemicals, and finished products throughout the facility safely.
- Packaging Support: Sort, pack, and label chemical products according to safety and quality standards.
- Machine Assistance: Assist machine operators with production lines, loading hoppers, and clearing blockages.
- Plant Maintenance: Clean production areas, dispose of waste safely, and assist with general facility upkeep.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and WHMIS protocols, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Required Skills & Qualifications: Technical & Hard Skills
- WHMIS Knowledge: Understanding chemical hazard symbols, safety data sheets (SDS), and safe handling procedures.
- Material Handling: Experience safely moving, stacking, and organizing heavy loads or raw chemical drums.
- Equipment Support: Ability to perform basic machinery safety checks and clear minor production line jams.
- PPE Compliance: Strict adherence to using respirators, safety goggles, steel-toe boots, and protective suits.
Physical Requirements & Soft Skills
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, bend, twist, and frequently lift up to 50 lbs on concrete floors.
- Safety Awareness: A proactive, "safety-first" mindset to spot and report workplace hazards instantly.
- Detail Oriented: High accuracy when reading chemical labels, measurements, and matching batch numbers.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to communicate clearly with machine operators, supervisors, and shippers.
- Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and possessing reliable transportation to our facility in Pickering.
