DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Manager, OR you will assist in preparing operating rooms for surgery. Responsibilities will include having surgical instruments, sterile supplies and linens, needed fluids, and other equipment ready. Scrub nurse role incorporating pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative duties with regard to the booked surgical procedures, assisting physicians with instruments, counting sponges and needles before and after the operation. Limited circulating duties during more predictable cases to include: charting, room preparation, specimen processing, and transfer of patients to Recovery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse;
- Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
- Current BCLS certification;
- Postgraduate certificate in R.P.N. Operating Room Nursing;
- Evidence of continuing education activities related to nursing and / or Perioperative nursing;
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment;
- Current experience in the perioperative environment;
- Demonstrated excellence in the scrub nurse role within the perioperative setting;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and documentation skills;
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multi-professional team;
- Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
- Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique;
- Assists with lifting, transferring, ambulation, etc. of patient required;
- Sitting, standing reaching, bending required;
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;
- Must have satisfactory performance record;

- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area.
