We are a boutique public accounting firm based in Port Moody, BC serving small businesses in BC and across Canada. As our firm continues to grow, we are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team on a fully remote basis.
This role is ideal for an accountant with public practice experience who is comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, and preparing corporate year-end files and corporate tax returns. About the Role
The Junior Accountant will primarily be responsible for preparing corporate year-end files and corporate income tax returns for a diverse group of owner-managed businesses. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a remote environment.
Approximately 80% of this role will involve corporate year-end engagements and T2 corporate tax return preparation. Additional responsibilities will include bookkeeping support, GST/PST filings, and personal tax return preparation during tax season.
Key ResponsibilitiesCorporate Accounting and Tax
- Prepare corporate year-end working paper files and financial statements
- Prepare T2 corporate income tax returns
- Assist with tax planning and tax compliance engagements
- Identify and follow up on missing client information
- Maintain organized and complete client files
Bookkeeping and Indirect Tax Support
- Perform bookkeeping and account reconciliations as required
- Assist with GST/HST and PST return preparation and filing
- Review bookkeeping records for accuracy and completeness
- Support clients with accounting software-related questions
Personal Tax Support
- Prepare T1 personal income tax returns during personal tax season
- Assist with tax return review and supporting documentation requests
Client Service and Team Collaboration
- Communicate professionally with clients by email and phone
- Work collaboratively with team members while managing assigned files independently
- Meet deadlines and manage competing priorities throughout the year
- Participate in process improvement initiatives as the firm grows
QualificationsRequired Experience
- 1–5 years of public accounting experience
- 1–5 years of experience preparing T2 corporate tax returns
- 1–5 years of experience preparing corporate year-end engagements
- 1–5 years of bookkeeping experience
- Experience preparing GST/HST and/or PST returns
Technical Skills
Experience with the following software is considered an asset:
- QuickBooks Online
- Caseware Cloud
- iFirm TaxPrep
- Financial Cents
- Google Workspace
