We're looking for an experienced freelance videographer for our YouTube channel, who can match our current shooting style for our weekly documentary-style episodes, featuring a tiny home tour, interview, and extensive B-roll footage.
You will be paid for each completed shoot ($1,200-1,450 CAD/shoot, depending on skill).
Shoot scheduling is flexible and depends on your availability. For example, one month you could complete 4 shoots and the next two months no shoots.
Please carefully read through the requirements listed below. If you do not meet this or do not have the necessary equipment, we will immediately reject your application.
Preferred Experience:
- At least 2 years of videography experience, like weddings, commercials, real estate, documentary, etc.
Required Equipment:
- Digital SLR or mirrorless camera that can shoot 4k at 60fps
- Lenses, ranging from 15mm to 100-ish (must have a wide focal length lens!)
- Monopod & tripod with video head
- Drone that can shoot 4k at 60fps
- At least 2 mic packs with wired lavs (for 2 interview subjects with seperated audio)
- Sound mixer
- On-camera LED light
- 60-100W LED light with softbox or octabank & light stand
Must-Haves:
- Be open to training and learning our technique & style
- Respectful and responsive communicator
- Respond well to constructive feedback
- Be detailed-oriented
- Don't be afraid to ask questions!
- Provide examples of your work with your application
- Be willing to travel 1.5-2 hrs from home base for the shoot (if further, we'll provide a travel expenses stipend)

We want a friendly, professional, and communicative partner. The expectation is that you learn and master our style. Though we are open to your ideas, suggestions, and feedback.
First, you will need to complete onboarding training and a paid test shoot ($1,100) to ensure that this is a good fit for all involved.
Training & Support:
- You'll need to thoroughly review the provided example episodes, shot list, and other training materials; attend an in-depth Zoom call to discuss
- Additional compensation for some travel expenses will be provided (mileage paid for locations over 50 minutes from home base, etc.)
- We will reimburse you for any required printing or shipping
Preproduction:
- Coordinate with us about your availability, and then we will source subjects in the agreed-upon locations
- Attend a 30-minute Zoom call with a Tiny House Expedition rep and the subject
- Review the provided shoot guide (your quick reference guide for each shoot)
- Reach out with any questions or additional guidance needed ahead of the shoot
- Print personal release forms to bring with you
Production:
- Each shoot takes 6-8 hours (plan to be on location for 8 hrs)
- Shoot components include a guided tour of the subject's tiny home, an interview, extensive B-roll footage (illustrative and lifestyle), and a handful of still photos for the thumbnail
- Ensure you have a physical or digital copy of the master shot list and shoot guide available for your reference during the shoot
- Engage with subjects in a friendly, personable, and professional manner
- Provide direction to subjects to guide them through various aspects of the shoot (the goal is to make them feel comfortable while getting the footage you need)
- Call or text us with any questions, concerns, or support needed!
Post-Production:
- Organize and upload footage via a service (if you shoot with us regularly, we'll send a hard drive to keep footage on)
- Email invoice
- Mail completed release forms
- Review our feedback about footage (early on, plan to discuss on a call)
Pay: $1,200.00-$1,450.00 per day
