About the Role
Brownstone Insurance Managers (BIM) is seeking a dedicated Transportation Captive Underwriter to join our growing team. Captive underwriting is a rewarding specialty, and this role is ideal for an experienced commercial auto underwriter looking to deepen their expertise in a niche, dynamic book of business. You'll deliver exceptional service with precision and professionalism, while helping strengthen a culture that champions professional growth and ongoing education.
What you will do
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of medium to large commercial transportation fleet risks, including new business, renewals, and endorsements
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers within your delegated underwriting authority
- Build and maintain strong broker and stakeholder relationships
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters
- Support and recommend enhancements to underwriting guidelines, processes, and workflows
- Represent the company at industry events and broker meetings as needed
- Collaborate across departments to ensure a seamless broker and client experience
- Contribute to the profitable growth of our underwriting portfolio
- Deliver prompt, courteous service to all business partners
What You Bring
- 3+ years of commercial auto underwriting experience, with a preference toward long-haul trucking
- CIP designation (preferred, or currently working toward it)
- RIBO license (or willingness to obtain)
- Familiarity with domestic carriers and Lloyd's of London markets (an asset)
