Reporting to the Plant Manager the Millwright is responsible for problem solving “out of service” equipment, overhaul and repair of fabrication machinery and Preventative Maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
- Receives instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done.
- Refers to drawings, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, code specifications, charts, and/or manuals to troubleshoot and repair mechanical components and machines.
- In consultation with supervision, determines the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
- Performs work requiring thorough knowledge of mechanical principles.
- Dismantles, inspects, cleans, adjusts, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, and assembles mechanical equipment and machinery including hydraulic and lubricating systems.
- Advises when immediate shut down of equipment or machinery is necessary to minimize damage or avoid possible injury.
- Adjusts equipment or machinery for proper operating characteristics.
- Operates production machinery during repairs and inspections.
- Operates maintenance machines to make or repair parts.
- Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, and shafts involving the use of press, sliding, and running fits.
- Notifies supervisor when equipment can be returned to production.
- Starts, stops, regulates, and makes repairs to air compressors.
- Erects scaffolds and performs rigging of equipment as required.
- Performs burning as required.
- Records maintenance tasks performed.
- Notes and reports defects in drawings, materials, tools, and equipment or unsafe
conditions in the plant.
- Performs minor electrical repairs such as repairing electrical cords, cables, grinders. Changes fuses and light bulbs.
- Collaborates with other workers to enhance efficiency of mechanical systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance on mechanical systems, components and equipment.
- Directs and trains other workers to operate equipment as necessary.
- Keeps work area clean and orderly, exercises all safety precautions.
- Performs all other tasks as required by the Plant Manager.
