Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller reporting to the CFO to oversee the financial operations of our organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing accounting processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires a strong background in accounting software and financial analysis, with the ability to lead budgeting and account reconciliation efforts. The Controller will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making and maintaining the financial health of the company.
Duties
- Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Act as the internal administrator for the outside payroll service provider (Ceridian).
- Verify hourly timecards and overtime hours against shift logs before processing.
- Audit the third-party system's calculations for statutory deductions, benefits deductions, and allowances.
- Reconcile payroll general ledger entries and ensure the outside vendor properly files annual T4s and workers' compensation reports.
- Administer employee group benefits plans and manage annual T4 slips and WCB reporting.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
- Monitor inventory control, ensuring accurate valuation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Direct the month-end and year-end close processes, generating accurate balance sheets and income statements.
- Prepare margin analysis by product line, branch, and customer.
- Develop financial forecasting models and annual budgets tailored to seasonal market changes.
Accounts Receivable (AR) & Payable (AP)
- Oversee the AR team to ensure timely collections, specifically handling complex customer accounts.
- Manage AP and vendor negotiations, ensuring prompt payments for critical suppliers while maximizing cash flow.
- Review and approve commercial contracts, ensuring profitability before sales are finalized.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal policies for back-office workflows and branch procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax requirements (e.g., CRA filings, GST).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the oilfield services, supply chain, or heavy industrial sector.
- Skills: Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (Amador Evolution) and high-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
