JANA is looking for an ambitious individual to join our Gas Operations Team as a GIS Analyst. JANA’s GIS Analysts are experts in our clients’ use of GIS technologies and help our clients to understand and execute better approaches for utilizing geospatial data to inform decisions helping revolutionize the Gas Pipeline Integrity industry. Working with a talented team, JANA’s GIS Analysts contribute to JANA’s product implementations by analyzing and visualizing client data, enhancing workflows, and continually improving our processes.
Responsibilities
- Analyses spatial data using mapping software and geo spatial databases
- Designs digital maps using geographic data as well as other data sources
- Produces maps showing spatial information highlight risk of pipelines and regions
- Works with clients to understand their GIS data structure and required spatial data processing
- Utilizes APIs and SDKs to integrate JANA risk platform products to GIS systems
- Writes clean, testable, maintainable scripts for geoprocessing data.
- Takes ownership of features and drives them to completion, e.g., Esri toolkits
- Reviews other developers’ code on a regular basis
- Writes test cases or performs unit testing
- Analyzes existing processes and analysis approaches to find better ways to do things

Required Skills & Experience
- Undergraduate in Computer Science, Geomatics, or equivalent experience
- Less than 2 years professional GIS Analysis or software development experience
- A strong desire to continually learn new things and constantly improve
- Strong ability to communicate both in written and verbal forms
- Experience working and integrating with GIS systems such as ESRI ArcGIS, Smallworld, Intergraph G/Technology
- Experience working with Python and scripting in Python (ArcPy preferred)
- Experience working with databases and writing basic SQL queries
- Experience using Git to create and review PRs, resolve merge conflicts, rebase and branching
- Strong software development fundamentals (design patterns, data structures, algorithms, code structure)
- Understanding of web application concepts such as MVC, REST, HTTP, etc.
- This role requires travel within Canada and the US on an as-needed basis up to 10% of time
