Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate, energetic, and reliable person to join our team as a Video Game & Pop Culture Event Specialist.
This unique casual role focuses on:
- Preparing inventory for conventions and pop culture events
- Working event booths in Edmonton and surrounding areas
- Supporting our retail store and warehouse on a casual, on-call basis
- Helping customers with video games, anime, comics, collectibles, and pop culture products
Job Duties
- Prep convention inventory by picking, organizing, packing, and preparing stock for transport.
- Assist with loading, unloading, booth setup, displays, sales, teardown, and inventory return.
- Work convention booths across Edmonton and surrounding areas.
- Process customer sales accurately using the cash register or point-of-sale system.
- Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service in busy event environments.
- Use strong pop culture knowledge to help customers with video games, collectibles, anime, comics, and related products.
- Drive company or designated vehicles to safely transport inventory, displays, and event equipment to local venues.
- Provide casual, on-call support for the retail store and warehouse when shifts are available and fit your schedule.
- Assist with store opening and closing procedures when covering retail shifts.
- Lift and move inventory bins, product boxes, and event equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Stand for long periods during busy conventions, markets, and events.
Minimum Requirements
- Availability to work scheduled conventions and events throughout the year.
- At least 16 years of age, with the maturity to responsibly handle cash transactions, customer service, and store procedures.
- Strong interest and knowledge in video games, anime, comics, collectibles, and pop culture.
- Strong English communication skills.
- Friendly, confident customer service skills and the ability to engage with large crowds.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License with a clean, insurable driving record.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently in a casual, on-call role.
- Valid passport or ability to travel for optional out-of-town conventions across Canada or the United States is considered an asset.
- Ability to speak multiple languages is considered a strong asset.
Hours and Schedule
- This is a casual, event-based position.
- Estimated annual convention hours are approximately 100 to 180+ hours per year for events in the Edmonton area.
- Hours will vary depending on event size, schedule, and business needs.
- Additional casual retail and warehouse hours may be available depending on your availability.
Event Hours Major Three-Day Conventions
Examples may include Edmonton Expo, Animethon, or similar events.
- Estimated hours: 25 to 35+ hours per weekend
- Duties may include:
- Inventory prep
- Loading and transport
- Booth setup
- Peak floor coverage
- Customer service and sales
- Teardown
- Inventory return
Smaller One-Day Shows and Markets
Examples may include local pop culture fairs, collector shows, or community markets.
- Estimated hours: 8 to 12 hours per event
- Duties may include:
- Early morning loading
- Stock transport
- Booth setup
- Public show coverage
- Sales support
- Evening inventory return
Out-of-Town Conventions
- Additional hours may be available for out-of-town conventions across Canada and the United States.
- These opportunities are optional and based on:
- Business needs
- Event requirements
- Your availability
- Travel eligibility
Additional Retail and Warehouse Hours
- Flexible casual, on-call hours may be available outside of convention work.
- These hours may include:
- Retail store coverage
- Warehouse support
- Picking and organizing inventory
- Packing and preparing stock
- General operational support
