We are seeking a motivated, organized, and customer-focused Flooring Sales Associate to join our growing team in the Waterloo region. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a combination of sales, technical knowledge, estimating, customer service, and hands-on field work.
The successful candidate will work directly with homeowners, builders, property managers, restoration companies, and contractors to help guide flooring selections, prepare estimates, conduct site measurements, and manage projects from initial contact through installation.
This is not simply a retail showroom position. The role requires a strong understanding of flooring systems, jobsite conditions, customer communication, and sales development.
Responsibilities:
- Generate new business through:
- Cold calling
- Builder and contractor outreach
- Networking
- Referral development
- Follow-up on leads and quotes
- Maintain relationships with:
- Homeowners
- General contractors
- Insurance restoration companies
- Property managers
- Realtors and builders
- Conduct showroom consultations and assist customers with flooring selections
- Upsell appropriate products such as upgraded underpad, trims, moisture mitigation systems, and installation upgrades
- Track leads, quotes, and customer communication
Site Visits & Measuring
- Visit residential and commercial job sites throughout the Waterloo Region and surrounding areas
- Measure homes and job sites accurately for:
- Carpet
- Luxury vinyl plank (LVP)
- Laminate
- Hardwood
- Tile
- Sheet vinyl
- Perform material take-offs and calculate:
- Square footage
- Waste factors
- Transitions
- Stair materials
- Trim requirements
- Underlayment quantities
- Assess site conditions including:
- Subfloor flatness
- Moisture concerns
- Existing floor removal requirements
- Height transitions
- Floor preparation requirements
- Identify potential installation challenges before quoting
The successful candidate will develop a working understanding of product knowledge and technical understanding of:
- Different flooring categories and where they are appropriate
- Wear layers, core types, veneer thicknesses, and product construction
- Residential vs commercial product applications
- Moisture and humidity considerations
- Subfloor preparation standards
Installation methods:
- Floating
- Glue-down
- Nail-down
- Click systems
- Underlayments and acoustic systems
- Basic manufacturer installation guidelines and warranty requirements
- Differences between:
- Laminate vs LVP
- WPC vs SPC
- Engineered vs solid hardwood
- Broadloom carpet vs carpet tile
Estimating & Project Coordination
- Prepare accurate quotations and estimates
- Read floor plans and perform take-offs from drawings when required
- Coordinate with installers, suppliers, and scheduling staff
- Order materials and verify quantities
- Assist in resolving jobsite issues and customer concerns
- Maintain organized project files and documentation
Customer Service
- Educate customers on product performance, durability, maintenance, and realistic expectations
- Communicate clearly regarding timelines, pricing, and installation requirements
- Help customers make informed decisions based on:
- Budget
- Lifestyle
- Pets
- Moisture exposure
- Traffic levels
- Aesthetic preferences
- Handle customer concerns professionally and confidently
Qualifications - Preferred Experience
- Experience in flooring sales, construction, renovation, or interior finishing is an asset
- Experience measuring homes or performing construction take-offs is highly preferred
- Knowledge of flooring products and installation practices is considered a strong asset

- Comfortable speaking with customers in-home and over the phone
- Ability to read tape measures and floor plans accurately
- Basic computer proficiency (email, spreadsheets, estimating software)

Requirements
- Valid Ontario driver’s license
- Ability to lift flooring samples and materials when required
- Comfortable traveling locally throughout the Waterloo Region

Pay: $35,867.00-$125,000.00 per year
