Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in operating a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators with various attachments, bulldozers, backhoes, and loaders. If you have a strong work ethic and are skilled in scrap metal operations, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
Operate excavators and heavy equipment with various attachments, including shears, grapples, magnets, and buckets, to sort, process, and load materials such as scrap metal, vehicles, and other recyclables.
Load and unload materials from trucks, trailers, etc. using heavy equipment. Willing to get in and out of the machine often to help others.
Sort, stack, and organize materials in designated storage areas to maximize efficiency and accessibility.
Maintain organizational systems that are in place to preserve efficiency and order in our yard. Regularly updating inventory records and adhering to layout guidelines to help streamline operations and minimize confusion.
Do not damage any inventory vehicles as parts are for resale.
Be aware of surroundings at all times as customers are coming in and out and areas are shared spaces.
Do not pick up a scrap vehicle with people in them at anytime.
Use heavy equipment to transport materials within the facility, load trucks, and assist with material handling tasks as needed.
Operate heavy equipment to move and level earth, debris, and other materials in preparation for recycling operations or site development projects.
Use heavy equipment for excavation, trenching, and other earthmoving tasks, as well as loading trucks and performing general site maintenance.
Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning, identify any maintenance or repair needs and report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
Basic maintenance of machine i.e. Checking fluids daily and greasing weekly.
Other general labourer jobs as needed including but not limited to breaking down tires, helping in non-ferrous, and housekeeping.
Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment or property.
Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate tasks, prioritize workloads, and ensure efficient operations.
Adhere to all company policies, regulations, and environmental standards related to waste management and recycling practices.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment, including excavators with attachments, front-end loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes, in a recycling, construction, or industrial setting.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Commitment to safety, attention to detail, and a positive attitude towards teamwork and continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) repeatedly throughout the shift.
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation.
Ability to operate heavy equipment for extended periods and navigate uneven terrain safely.
