Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and organized Duty Cook / Dietary Cook to join our team. The successful candidate will prepare and portion meals according to posted menus, ensure food safety and sanitation standards are maintained, and provide excellent service to residents in a professional and respectful manner. This role also includes supervising dietary staff, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and supporting daily kitchen operations.
- Prepare and portion meals as pre-posted menus.
- Provide resident “snacks” and/or supplements as posted.
- Adhere to specific resident meals as posted i.e. cut-up, small portions, puree, restrictions etc.
- Prepare Meal Trays at specific times.
- Follow sanitation and food procedures including safe handling of food, maintain accepted temperatures etc.
- Report-in writing any equipment mal-functions or hazardous situations immediately.
- Daily writing communication to other cooks regarding meals, complaints etc.
- Assist in stock receiving, rotation and storing as required.
- Duty Cook is responsible for cleanliness and orderly condition of the kitchen and dining room at shift end.
- Ensure kitchen, pantry, fridge, floors are swept and sanitized daily.
- Disposal of garbage at the shift end.
- Ensure Servers are complying with established procedures and policies.
- Respond to resident complaints/concerns promptly and professionally and report to the Supervisor.
- Assist with special events and/or in house catering as required.
- Follow established facility procedures and policies.
- Record refrigerator and food temperature.
- Keep food samples as required by the Health Inspector.
- Ensure appliances are clean daily.
- Regular scheduled cleaning of large appliances i.e. stove hood filters etc.
- Supervise Dietary Staff to ensure they have completed their duties.
- Notify management about staff meals and additional family meals
Qualifications
- Previous cooking or dietary experience preferred, ideally in healthcare, retirement, or long-term care settings.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to supervise staff and maintain a positive work environment.
- Food Handler Certification required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical kitchen duties.
Pay: $19.00-$19.40 per hour
