Position Overview
Peterson Machine & Supply Inc. is seeking an experienced Fitter/Fabricator to join our team. This position is primarily shop-based, fabricating and repairing heavy industrial equipment, structural steel, and custom assemblies. From time to time, you'll also support industrial field service work, including equipment repairs, shutdowns, installations, and maintenance projects throughout Northwestern Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and engineering documentation.
- Lay out, fit, fabricate, and assemble structural steel, plate work, piping, and custom industrial components.
- Perform cutting, grinding, fitting, and preparation of materials for welding and assembly.
- Work closely with machinists, welders, millwrights, and other trades to complete repairs and projects.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, quality, and housekeeping.
- Assist with field installations, equipment repairs, shutdowns, and maintenance projects as required.
- Support repairs to conveyors, crushers, chutes, pumps, hoppers, structural steel, piping systems, hydraulic equipment, and other industrial machinery.
- Mentor apprentices and contribute to the development of junior team members
Qualifications
- Red Seal Metal Fabricator (Fitter) Certificate of Qualification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of fabrication experience in an industrial environment.
- Strong blueprint reading and layout skills.
- Experience fitting structural steel, plate work, and heavy industrial assemblies.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting ability.
- Experience operating common fabrication equipment.
- Experience in mining, forestry, pulp and paper, or heavy industry is considered an asset.
- Valid CWB welding certification, or willingness to obtain certification, is considered an asset.
- Underground Common Core is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for customer field work and shutdowns.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
