Civil Engineering Technologist
K. Smart Associates is seeking qualified, energetic individual to join our team. The Civil Engineering Technologist supports the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects within the Land Development department. This role involves a combination of office-based design and drafting using Civil 3D, as well as field-based construction inspection and surveying. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the position requires independent decision-making and a high level of technical competence to ensure that projects meet client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
This position also involves collaboration with various stakeholders, preparation of technical documentation, and liaison with government agencies and contractors to resolve project-related issues.
Typical Office Duties
- Develop detailed design and engineering drawings for civil projects, including grading plans, municipal drainage systems, road designs, and other land development infrastructure, using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Update and maintain design documentation to reflect project modifications or field changes.
- Prepare preliminary design reports, drawings, and documentation for review and submission to clients or regulatory authorities.
- Communications with project managers, contractors, municipal staff, clients and agencies
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents, including specifications and cost estimates using Microsoft Excel
Typical Field Duties
- Assist in topographical surveys using GPS and Total Station
- Perform on-site construction inspections to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, municipal standards and Ontario provincial standard specifications.
- Measure materials and systems related to civil engineering projects, ensuring adherence to quality and performance standards.
- Document inspection findings, including preparation of detailed status reports and memos for submission to clients and project managers.
Additional Qualifications
- Candidates must have at least three years of Civil Engineering experience.
- C.E.T., C Tech., or eligibility for registration is preferred
- Construction inspection experience of municipal infrasturer in accordance with the Ontario Provincial Standards considered an asset
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in land development, or civil infrastucture.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS applications.
- Skilled in operating level loop instruments, laser levels, and GPS equipment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with clients and stakeholders.
- Valid G driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for site visits
