Job Summary
We are a busy and growing boutique law firm located in Courtenay, B.C., looking for a dedicated legal assistant to join our dynamic legal team. You will work closely with our lawyers to support active files across Family Law, Criminal Law, and Civil Litigation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced legal environment, assisting lawyers with case management, document preparation, and client communication. Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and formatting legal documents, correspondence, and court forms
- Managing calendars, scheduling appointments, and tracking court deadlines
- Organizing and maintaining client files (digital and physical)
- Communicating with clients, courts, and opposing counsel in a professional manner
- Assisting the legal team with day-to-day administrative tasks
What We Are Looking For
- Previous legal assistant experience working in Family Law, Criminal Law, or Civil Litigation
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with legal software and word processing
- Great attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a close-knit legal team
- Available to start immediately

Duties
- Provide comprehensive administrative support;
- Assist lawyers with legal drafting, proofreading documents, and preparing pleadings for family, civil, and criminal cases
- Manage calendar deadlines, court dates, and appointment scheduling to ensure timely case progression
- Handle phone inquiries with professionalism and courtesy, ensuring clear communication with clients, courts, and external agencies
- Perform clerical tasks such as faxing, scanning, photocopying, and maintaining meticulous records of all case-related documents
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Legal Assistant in the area of Family, Civil Litigation and Criminal or in a similar administrative role within a legal setting
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases efficiently
- Excellent writing skills with attention to detail for legal drafting and proofreading tasks
- Familiarity with legal software and/ or other legal research tools
- Knowledge of British Columbia Supreme and Provincial court procedures related to family law, civil litigation, and criminal law is preferred
- Exceptional phone etiquette combined with strong clerical experience including filing and data entry
