Join us as an Inclusion Support Staff. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, you will provide support to participants who benefit from additional support, helping them thrive in a fun and welcoming recreational environment.
Inclusion support is offered at all recreation programs and facilities throughout the City. This position requires transportation to travel between any of the City Of Oshawa facilities and program spaces as required.
Responsibilities:
- Review, understand, and follow each participant's Inclusion Profile to provide consistent, individualized support.
- Get creative by suggesting and implementing program and environmental adaptations to create an inclusive environment
- Maintain communication with caregivers as appropriate
- Promote appropriate behaviour using learned strategies and acquired skills
- Ensure the safety, enjoyment and care of registered participants in City of Oshawa seasonal recreation programs
- Respond to first aid situations
- Become familiar with City of Oshawa policies, procedures and emergency procedures and be able to implement such procedures (fire, power failure, building evacuation)
- Report all incidents, accidents, issues and concerns to the Program Coordinator
- Complete all formal paperwork (accident, incident, complaint forms, weekly attendance)
- Answer questions and inquiries, while providing effective customer service to registrants/patrons of the program
- Ensure all equipment is prepared/put away during each session
- Support and demonstrate the City of Oshawa core values of Authenticity, Courage, and Trust
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Enrolled in post-secondary program in a related field is an asset (eg. Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy)
- Possess and keep current Standard First Aid/CPR ‘C’ qualifications
- Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Information Request prior to employment start date
- Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Attend all staff training and meetings
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Strong swimmer and ice skater is considered an asset
As a condition of employment, the City of Oshawa will require successful candidates to provide a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
