Job Summary
The Senior Medical Writer is a key contributor within the medical writing team, responsible for developing clear, accurate, and engaging scientific content across a range of medical communication deliverables. This role combines strong scientific understanding with advanced writing skills and growing leadership in client and project management. The Senior Medical Writer ensures that content reflects strategic objectives and scientific integrity while supporting and mentoring junior team members.
Essential Job Functions
Content Creation:
- Research and write a variety of medical communications materials including summaries, slides, meeting reports, manuscripts, and digital content
- Incorporate client feedback effectively and professionally into revised deliverables
- Attention to detail and ability to communicate complex information clearly and accurately
- Creative-thinking skills to visualize and tell a story with graphics
- Critically evaluate data from scientific literature, clinical studies, and other sources to ensure content accuracy and credibility
Knowledge of the global pharma industry and the associated regulatory and compliance requirements combined with knowledge of the global drug development process and product market needs

Therapeutic Area Development
- Knowledge and proficiency across relevant therapeutic areas, including disease states, treatment landscapes, and emerging data
- Apply therapeutic understanding to ensure content is contextually accurate, strategically aligned, and appropriate for target audiences
Understanding of client objectives, therapeutic priorities, and communication preferences over time

Project Leadership:
Take ownership of assigned projects and deliverables, managing timelines, client expectations, and internal review processes to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery
Client Interaction:
Participate in client calls and meetings, offering scientific input and demonstrating understanding of client needs and therapeutic landscapes
Collaboration:
Work closely with account management, creative, and strategy teams to develop integrated and scientifically sound communication programs
Quality and Compliance:
Ensure that all work adheres to agency quality standards, style guides, and industry guidelines (eg compliance, regulatory & legal)
Mentorship:
Support the development of junior writers through coaching, feedback, and sharing of best practices
Professional Growth:
Seek and apply feedback from mentors and peers; actively develop writing skills and therapeutic knowledge
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
- Advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline (PhD, PharmD, MD, MSc, or equivalent)
- 3–5+ years of experience in medical communications or related industry
- Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities to meet operational deadlines and juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with a focus on presentations, graphics, and templates

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional in-person and virtual office environment. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers and phones.

This is largely a sedentary role - prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Also includes travel and onsite execution of events as needed.
