At Trade Winds to Success, we are dedicated to empowering Indigenous individuals in Alberta by providing pre-trades training and employment services for graduates. We are currently seeking a dedicated Student Recruitment Officer to join our team in Edmonton, AB.
The Student Recruitment Officer will be responsible for leading recruitment activities for all Trade Winds to Success programs, ensuring a consistent pipeline of qualified and job-ready applicants for program intakes.
In line with our mission, the Student Recruitment Officer will support applicant assessment, and intake coordination activities that contribute to successful student participation and employment readiness outcomes. Responsibilities include:
- Traveling to communities across Alberta to support outreach programming for all Trade Winds programs, including information sessions, assessments, and recruitment activities.
- Facilitating online and in-person information sessions for all Trade Winds programs.
- Supporting the development of a consistent and sustainable pipeline of applicants across all program intakes.
- Administering SkillPlan assessments (math and reading) to evaluate applicant readiness for program entry.
- Conducting comprehensive employability assessments to evaluate readiness for training and employment in the skilled trades.
- Assessing applicants’ ability to meet program expectations, including attendance, participation, and commitment to employment outcomes.
- Identifying potential barriers to success and documenting findings to support informed decision-making.
- Providing recommendations to the Manager – Student Services regarding applicant suitability for program acceptance.
- Collaborating with the Program Assistant and program staff to ensure a smooth and coordinated intake process.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and supporting reporting related to recruitment activities, applicant data, and intake outcomes.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
The Student Recruitment Officer should possess several key competencies essential for supporting Indigenous students through the intake and recruitment process. These include:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to assess applicant readiness and barriers to success.
- A commitment to supporting positive training and employment outcomes within the skilled trades.
- Demonstration of professionalism, cultural awareness, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, communities, and program staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1–2 years of experience working with Indigenous students or within Indigenous communities.
- Experience in employment or career counselling.
- A diploma or degree in social work, career counselling, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of Alberta’s Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship Education Act and ability to assess job market readiness and identify barriers related to employment and training success.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and assessment skills are essential, along with the ability and willingness to travel to communities across Alberta as required.
REMUNERATION & BENEFITS:
This full-time position will be working at our office in Edmonton from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The salary range for this role is between $60,000 to $69,000 annually. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support overall well-being and work-life balance. These benefits include health insurance, a retirement plan, and paid time off.
