Founded in 2002, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization tasked with the safe, long-term management of Canada’s intermediate- and high-level radioactive waste, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come.
The NWMO has been guided for more than 20 years by a dedicated team of world-class scientists, engineers and Indigenous Knowledge Holders who are developing innovative and collaborative solutions for nuclear waste management. In 2024, the NWMO selected Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace as the hosts for the site for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel.
Development Intern Student – Communications (Creative Team)

Employment Period: 4-month Term - August 31/September 8 – December 23, 2026
Position Location: Toronto Head Office – 22 St. Clair Avenue East (effective July 2026, 30 Adelaide St East)
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Developmental Communications Student placement. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will support communications activities across the department.
The Communications team operates in a fast-paced, creative environment and interacts with teams across the business. We are a not-for-profit organization implementing a large long-term national environmental infrastructure project that will last multiple generations. This role is based in our Toronto headquarters.
- Conducting research to support new creative projects.
- Project management by developing and maintaining workback schedules.
- Communications reporting by assisting with activity tracking to support event planning.
- Creating and producing creative assets for digital, social and print applications to support communications plans.
- Assisting the Exhibits and Events Coordinator with scheduling and planning events and conferences.
We operate a full-service communications team within the NWMO, and to the extent time allows beyond the duties described above, the co-op student may be assigned to support other communications activities.
- An active registered student in a post-secondary communications or creative-oriented program.
- A quick learner that can work independently and as part of a team.
- Highly organized.
- Familiar with the principles of good communications planning.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills – Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Creative Cloud would be an asset.
Eligibility:
Students must be returning full-time to their program at their college/university following the completion of their work term or be full-time students requiring the work term or co-op placement to graduate.
Students must be eligible to work in Canada and must be able to meet security clearance requirements.
Students must be available to work full-time, 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day, during regular business hours. Hybrid Work: Students must be able to work a minimum of 3 days in the Office Location, with Tuesday and Wednesday being required days in office.
