Input all incidents into Park Lane upon notification.
Oversees and manages Return to Work and Modified Work Assignments
Ensures proper accident and incident investigation and Workers Compensation reporting requirements are met.
Completes compensation claim forms and communicates with Human Resources, payroll and department managers on compensation related matters.
Oversees compensation claims management for HMWL locations with assistance from the Corporate Disability Manager
3. Training and Development
Identifies training requirements and ensures job coaching for associates when required.
Recommends, coordinates, implements, and conducts educational and training programs relative to safety to empower associates.
4. Safety Policies, Practices and Reporting
Recommends and implements appropriate safety policies and practices to ensure compliance with local and provincial legislative requirements and corporate safety guidelines, under the direction the BC Safety Manager
Acts as a liaison with governmental agencies and serves as management’s representative for inquiries and inspections to correct deficiencies and minimize citations and fines for non-compliance.
Coordinates and implements inspection programs at all farms (i.e. accident investigations, monthly farm inspections, equipment inspections, safety audits and regular walk-through inspections)
Provides weekly accident/safety reports to the BC Safety Manager
Reports all safety infractions requiring corrective counselling to the area supervisor and the HR Manager
Interacts with vendors and purchasing to evaluate chemicals for safety hazards, establish policies and practices, and work with farm maintenance to ensure compliance.
Evaluates, assesses and maintains Safety Data Sheets
Oversees visitor and contractor compliance with all Health and Safety requirements, including any legislative requirements.
Ensures proper adherence to safety policies and procedures at all BC farms.
Oversees the safety orientation content for HMWL farms and ensures proper training records are kept.
Assists in on-boarding of new associates, including, but not limited to, safety orientations and training.
Provides safety training to associates who require LOTO, Forklift, Fit Testing, H2S, etc.
Assists with leave management program including, but not limited to, return to work from illness or injury.
Builds supportive, trusted and respected relationships with farm associates and leadership.
Cultivates a culture that reflects our core values of integrity, excellence, care, respect, effort, openness and fairness.
Co-chairs and leads the JHSC and all required meetings. This position is responsible for keeping and posting minutes of JHSC meetings and ensures the timely resolution of all concerns and issues brought forward by the Safety Committee
Ensures accurate and timely updating of all safety bulletin boards.
Involved in the purchase of required safety supplies, creating POs and receiving invoices in SAP.
Maintains and updates records for all safety related training.
5. Investigations/Emergency Situations
Conducts investigations for any safety issue or accident/concern brought forward, and makes recommendations for corrective actions, in conjunction with the HR Manager
Authorized to stop operations if a safety concern has been identified.
Assists the HR Manager with writing corrective action for safety infractions.
Maintains current first aid training.
Ensures the first aid facility at all locations is properly maintained.
Provides first aid treatment for workplace illness or injury, if on site
Ensures associates with first aid training are available on other shifts.
Maintains first aid treatment records and reports.
A combination of professional experiences or equivalent combined education, designation and work experience will be considered;
3 years of direct experience in Health and Safety
Preference given to those with a CRSP or CTST designation.
Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or Human Resource Management
Prior knowledge of Workplace Safe and WCB Disability Claims Management and RTW planning
Strong computer skills in word documents and spreadsheet or database type program entry and information use
Strong interpersonal communication skills require.
Experience in Incident Reporting & Investigation.
First Aid Certification is considered an asset.
Knowledge of applicable Health and Safety regulations, standards and codes
Fluent in verbal and written English, other languages considered an asset
