What do you need to succeed in this role?
· 3+ years of previous experience.
· Experience working with alterations, upholstery, heavy-duty fabric work, designing, repair, and tailoring.
· Experience working with multiple fabrics including cotton, nylon, polyester/synthetic, and leather.
· Previous experience working with high-end technical apparel.
· A passion for helping first responders stay safe.
· Solid listening, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· The ability to change priorities quickly.
· The ability to meet deadlines.
Bonus skills:
· Previous experience in a manufacturing role.
· Knowledge of tactical gear and uniform apparel.
· Experience dealing with first responder and/or military communities would be an asset.
What’s the job?
As a Part-time Alterations Specialist, you will work on-site at our Calgary location to assist in the alteration and production of customer clothing. This will include…
· Sew pant striping.
· Perform pant hemming and lengthening.
· Fit, alter and repair garments as required.
· Lay out, cut, sew and press materials to make epaulettes.
· Sew Crests, Patches, Velcro and Striping to a variety of garments.
· Sew equipment according manufacturing specifications using an industrial sewing machine.
· Operate commercial and industrial sewing machines.
· Mark, cut and sew fabric.
This position is part of the 911 Supply Custom Shop – A division of the business focused on the customization of technical apparel and tactical gear. As part of the 911 Supply Custom Shop, you will be working closely with the Custom Shop Lead and the Marketing Department.
Weekly duties will include performing alterations on pants, shirts, and apparel; sewing striping on uniform pants and shirts; Sewing patches and Velcro on apparel; and working with design teams to produce samples and prototypes.
Effective communication and teamwork with other departments are critical to our business’ success. You will need to be able to work well with a lot of individuals with different priorities and needs in order to meet your goals, as well as the company’s goals.
