Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Litigation Law Clerk to support our legal team in managing litigation cases on a part-time, remote basis. The ideal candidate will possess strong research, drafting, and administrative skills, with demonstrated experience in estate and civil litigation matters, to assist lawyers with case preparation, document management, and legal procedures. This role is based in Toronto and offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in contributing to a dynamic legal team while working remotely.
Duties
· Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits of documents, and correspondence with precision and clarity in both estate and civil litigation matters.
· Conduct legal research using CanLII, Westlaw, and other Canadian legal research databases to support case strategy and preparation.
· Assist with the preparation and service of court materials in accordance with the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and the Rules of the Estate Court.
· Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case information, deadlines, and court filings.
· Assist lawyers with preparing for examinations for discovery, mediations, and court appearances by organizing relevant documents and evidence.
· Draft estate litigation documents including applications, certificates of appointment, and passing of accounts materials.
· Proofread legal documents for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to formatting standards.
· File documents with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice electronically via CaseLines or physically, ensuring compliance with procedural requirements.
· Ability to use Clio
· Provide clerical support including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and coordinating with opposing counsel and court offices.
· Support project management tasks related to ongoing litigation cases to ensure timely progression of each matter and compliance with limitation periods.
Qualifications
· Completion of a Law Clerk diploma program from a recognized Ontario college or equivalent education.
· Proven experience working in estate litigation and civil litigation within an Ontario legal setting.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a remote work environment.
· Excellent proofreading, writing skills, and attention to detail.
· Knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, the Estates Act, and the Succession Law Reform Act.
· Ability to perform legal drafting accurately and effectively.
· Strong data entry skills along with knowledge of court filing procedures in Ontario.
· Effective communication skills for liaising with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel.
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
Pay: From $38.00 per hour
