Steel Estimator (Temporary – Sick Leave Coverage)
Overview
The Steel Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and quotations for steel projects by reviewing drawings, specifications, labour, materials, and equipment requirements. This role supports project planning, tendering, and coordination by preparing quantity take-offs, labour calculations, and preliminary schedules while working closely with operations, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure competitive and accurate project pricing.
Responsibilities
- Prepare steel estimate/quotes of probable costs of materials, labour, and equipment for projects or quotes based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
- Periodically acts as planner on smaller scope projects, including assisting with all estimating, project coordination efforts, and interacting with key leadership and the client.
- Review’s safety requirements, solicit suppliers and subcontractors, prepares quantity surveys, and prepare preliminary schedules.
- Prepare & coordination of estimates or quotes.
- Prepares labour hour calculations and crew durations for costing.
- Puts together quantity take-offs for costing as well for tendering budgetary pricing.
- Gives inputs for steel scope change estimate/quotes.
- Reviews bonding and insurance requirements under the direction of the Operations Manager.
- May attend meetings, including pre-tender, bid strategy, contract review, pricing review, and subcontractor scope review meetings.
- Renumeration will be based on experience
Qualifications & Experience
- Knowledge of steel estimating & quoting an asset
- One year of experience as a Estimator
This is a temporary position to provide coverage for an employee on sick leave. The contract is expected to last approximately 40 days, although the duration may vary depending on operational needs.
Pay: $25.00-$32.00 per hour
