Position Overview
At Luggage City, customer service always comes first.
As a Manager Trainee, your primary responsibility will be delivering an exceptional shopping experience for every customer who visits our store. During quieter customer periods, you'll shift your focus to the operational side of the business, developing the skills required to successfully manage a retail store.
Throughout your hands-on training, you'll progressively learn every aspect of our operation—from customer service and sales to inventory management, merchandising, repair services, daily operations, and leadership. As your knowledge and confidence grow, so will your responsibilities.
What You'll Learn
Customer Service & Sales
Customer service is the foundation of everything we do.
You'll learn how to:
- Deliver exceptional customer service in a welcoming and professional environment.
- Build lasting customer relationships through outstanding service.
- Assist customers in selecting luggage and travel accessories that best meet their needs.
- Develop expert product knowledge across our premium brands.
- Process sales, exchanges, returns, and special orders accurately.
- Learn consultative selling techniques and contribute to achieving store sales goals.
- Professionally handle customer questions and resolve concerns.
Store Operations
Gain practical experience in the day-to-day responsibilities involved in operating a successful retail business.
You'll learn to:
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Support daily operational tasks that keep the store running efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shopping environment.
- Balance customer service with operational responsibilities.
- Develop strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
Inventory Management & Stock Control
During non-peak customer periods, you'll learn how operational excellence contributes to an outstanding customer experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Receiving and processing incoming merchandise.
- Replenishing merchandise as products are sold.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient stockroom.
- Ensuring merchandise is accurately priced and ticketed.
- Attaching security tags and theft prevention devices where required.
- Participating in inventory counts and stock audits.
- Monitoring inventory accuracy and identifying discrepancies.
- Learning effective inventory control procedures.
- Helping maintain high operational standards throughout the store.
- Leading by example by encouraging fellow team members to replenish merchandise, maintain organized stockrooms, and uphold company standards.
Merchandising
Learn how visual presentation influences the customer experience.
You'll assist with:
- Maintaining attractive product displays.
- Keeping merchandise organized, fully stocked, and customer-ready.
- Seasonal merchandising and promotional displays.
- Ensuring pricing, signage, and product presentation remain accurate and consistent.
Repair Services
Luggage City proudly offers authorized luggage repair services as part of our commitment to exceptional after-sales customer care.
You'll learn to:
- Receive customer repair requests and accurately document repair information.
- Explain repair procedures, timelines, and applicable charges.
- Coordinate repair requests with our in-house repair department and manufacturer warranty programs.
- Follow up with customers regarding repair approvals, progress, and completion.
- Ensure every repair is tracked from drop-off through to customer pick-up while delivering an outstanding customer experience.
Leadership Development
As your experience grows, you'll progressively learn how to:

- Coach others on company standards and procedures.
- Balance customer service with operational excellence.

Qualifications
We're looking for someone with the potential to become a future retail leader.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of retail, customer service, or hospitality experience.
- Previous supervisory, keyholder, team lead, or assistant management experience is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Comfortable lifting boxes and working in both the sales floor and stockroom.
- Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn retail point-of-sale and inventory management systems.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- A valid G Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle is considered an asset.
