Health & Safety Superintendent
Atlantic Operations is a wholly owned subsidiary of St Barbara Limited, an ASX listed gold producer and explorer with mining assets in Canada and Australia.
We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent. This permanent and full time position is based at our Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia.
The Opportunity:

Leads safe work practices by ensuring safe work conditions, proactively supporting safe implementation of projects and works throughout the Atlantic Operations.

Directs day-to-day activities of the Safety Advisors. Coaching Safety Advisors, management and employees on good health and safety practices.

Responsible for ensuring all health and safety programs, training and reporting is up to date for both internal and external regulatory programs. This includes but is not limited to safety training, risk registries, critical controls, incident reporting and safety statistics.

Manages the Nova Scotia Worker Safety Board (WSB) registry ensuring files are updated and followed appropriately.

Responsible for the management of the employee induction process as it relates to safety.

Identifying and leading best practice in health and safety practices.

Conducts frequent safety inspections across all Atlantic operations, including operations, capital projects, exploration and all supporting services.

Maintains an effective management system to review and monitor progress, taking corrective action where necessary.

Actively participate to improve and sustain a positive safety culture across the organization.

Motivates others, instils passion and engages others.
Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Unencumbered Class 5 driver's license.

University or professional qualifications in Health, Safety and Environment and/or Management.

Experience in an industrial setting

Expertise in safety investigations
-
Qualified in Advanced First Aid
-
Experience in Occupational Hygiene sampling and reporting

Analytical Thinking
-
Comprehensive understanding of the development, implementation and monitoring of H&S systems.

Competent in Risk Management processes related to H&S practices.

Good communication skills and the ability to coach

5+ years of relevant Health and Safety experience is desired
-
Understanding of various exploration techniques, mining operations, process mill operations and variations of surface drilling equipment and support equipment is desired
