Worley Canada Construction is looking for a Materials Controller for our growing Materials Management team to work near Edmonton, AB.
Work Conditions
- Site‑based role on a major industrial construction project in Edmonton, Alberta.
- Shift schedule: Monday – Friday (48 hour week)
- Travel and LOA are not provided – local candidates only.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
Key Responsibilities
Material Handling & Logistics
- Coordinate material deliveries to and from site in collaboration with Procurement
- Prepare accurate Bills of Lading and shipping documentation, when required for outbound shipments
- Provide support to Material Handlers to ensure receiving, identification, and documentation processes are executed in accordance with project requirements
- Ensure alignment between physical material handling activities and system expectations, without performing routine field transactions
- Support safe, organized, and efficient material laydown and movement across site
Material Receiving Readiness & System Control
- Ensure readiness for material receipt, including verification of expected deliveries, documentation requirements, and system preparedness (e.g., material master data, heat number structures, required attributes)
- Support Material Handlers in the receiving process by ensuring requirements, documentation, and system expectations are clearly understood prior to receipt
- Maintain accurate, real-time material records within the material management system (SiteSense) by verifying that all transactions (receipts, issues, transfers) are completed correctly and in a timely manner
- Validate that system records reflect physical material status, and coordinate resolution of discrepancies between system and field conditions
- Ensure all material data, including heat numbers, serial numbers, and supporting documentation (e.g., MTRs, CRNs), is complete, accurate, and traceable
- Provide guidance and oversight on transaction processes, without routinely performing transactional receiving activities
Issue Resolution & Coordination
- Own the coordination and escalation of material discrepancies (OS&D/UOSD), following initial identification and recording by Material Handlers
- Interface with Procurement, suppliers, and clients to drive timely resolution of material issues
- Coordinate shipment schedules and site delivery timelines, including client-supplied (free issue) materials
- Interface with Home Office and project teams to ensure timely completion of procurement and materials management activities
- Support invoice validation and resolution where material discrepancies exist
Construction Readiness & Execution
- Align material availability, staging, and issuing with construction priorities and sequencing, as communicated by site supervision
- Work closely with Construction, Planning, and Materials teams to understand workface requirements and material demand
- Proactively identify and escalate material constraints, shortages, or discrepancies that may impact construction execution
- Support work package readiness by ensuring materials are visible, traceable, and available when required
- Maintain continuous communication with construction teams to respond to changes in priority or sequencing
Quality, Traceability & Compliance
- Ensure all materials are received, stored, and issued in a manner that preserves identification, condition, and traceability
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready material records in accordance with project and client requirements
- Support quality and inspection processes by ensuring material documentation is available and properly linked to material records
This role is:
- Accountable for materials data accuracy, traceability, and system integrity
- Responsible for ensuring readiness and control of material receiving processes
- A key contributor to construction readiness and execution alignment
- A problem solver who proactively identifies and resolves material-related issues
- A collaborative partner across construction, procurement, and materials teams
This role is not:
- Solely a physical material handling role: this position includes significant system accountability and coordination responsibilities
- Responsible for executing routine material receipt transactions or physically receiving materials, except where required to support the team or maintain continuity of operations
- Responsible for setting construction priorities or sequencing work
- A passive coordination role: this position requires ownership of material issues and timely resolution
- Responsible for procurement decisions
Qualifications
- Completion of post-secondary education or a recognized trades certification.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial construction, preferably in a field-based materials role.
- Practical knowledge of industrial materials (pipe, valves, fittings, instrumentation, equipment, and electrical components) and applicable codes and standards
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including piping isometrics is an asset.
- Experience supporting fabrication, modularization, and/or field assembly activities (asset).
- Proven experience using digital materials management systems (e.g., AVEVA ERM, SAP, JD Edwards, SiteSense), with strong focus on data accuracy and transaction control
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power Apps or reporting tools is an asset.
