Job Summary
The Piping Engineer is responsible for leading the design, engineering, and execution of piping systems for refining and petrochemical projects, ensuring compliance with industry codes, company standards, and project specifications. This role provides technical leadership, oversees engineering deliverables, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, and drives cost-effective, high-quality design solutions while supporting project execution from conceptual design through detailed engineering.
Job Description

Performs complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision. Takes lead when works with peers.

Reviews the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project.

Possesses critical analytical skills and is adept at utilizing good decision-making tools; high level of data analysis skills.

Regularly performs reviews of vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met.

Piping Specification activities for Conceptual, Basic and Detailed Engineering stages of Piping for refining and petrochemical processes.

Material selection based on preliminary information received from Materials Specialist.

Design calculation like Pressure-Temperature rating, Pipe wall thickness, Branch Reinforcement Pad, Miter bend calculation.

Establish design criteria, prepare procurement specifications, evaluate bids, and manage contracts for various types of piping systems along with any other specified equipment.

Prepared or Extraction of Piping Material Take-off.

Leads mid to large-size project or proposals.

Develops and leads others in ways of improving the design and lowering cost.

Considers multiple options and makes good decisions based on good data analysis.

Manages several different assignments simultaneously.

Applies techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results.

Utilizes industry and company standards to design and engineer effectively.

Serves as resource to less experienced engineers.

Reviews application of standards for correct interpretations.

Leads projects in how to interpret and apply codes and standards.

Leads team to identify changes in the scope of work during mid to large-sized projects.

Produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.

Leads quality checks of the design and engineering of a mid to major-sized project to ensure accuracy.

Skills Required

7–15 years' minimum relevant experience in refining and petrochemical industry.

Self directs work with limited supervision.

Provides guidance, leadership and training to less experienced engineers.

Leads small team to complete task/design on project.

Work with project teams as representative and coordinates work within discipline department.

Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.

A minimum of experience in SAGD, oil sands, and heavy/crude oil is required
Education/Training/Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering minimum required.
