The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our team. In this role, you will support accounts payable and receivable functions, processes employee onboarding information related to compensation and benefits, and assist with administrative tasks. The Accounting Clerk works as part of a team serving multiple departments and organizations, helping to ensure efficient and consistent financial operations across the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). The Accounting Clerk role is responsible for auditing, preparing and entering financial payroll related data, ensuring transactions are accurate, timely, and compliant with legislation and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Enter and verify payroll and employee information in the GNWT ERP system
- Review financial data to ensure compliance with policies, agreements, and legislation
- Assist with employee onboarding documentation related to pay and benefits
- Provide administrative support, including records management and general office tasks
Key Qualifications:
- Grade 12 and 1 year of related coursework, with 2 years of related experience
Equivalencies:
- 5 years related experience, preferably in a public service environment
Related experience may include:
- Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable
- Payroll or benefits administration support
- Finance or accounting assistant roles
- Data entry involving financial systems
- Administrative roles with financial duties (processing invoices, etc.)
