Peer Support Facilitator
(3-4 hours weekly for up to 10 weeks, 3 times per year)

POSITION SUMMARY
IHO recognizes that lived experience and connection with peers is a powerful tool for healing from abuse. IHO’s Peer Support Program encourages community connection and support for survivors of violence to meet, learn about dynamics of abuse, and share their experiences and learning with one another.
As someone who has used our services and/or experienced intimate partner violence (IPV), the Peer Support Facilitator is best placed to understand the day-to-day experiences of those who have recently left an abusive relationship. Their insight, empathy, and expertise will help to create a supportive environment for folks who are navigating life after abuse.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Meet with the co-facilitator at the beginning of each 10-week group series to review and update the group curriculum, with the support of the Transitional & Peer Support Worker (TPSP).
- Facilitate each group session in accordance with the prepared curriculum.
- Review participant requests and referrals, conduct pre-participation interviews and have conversations about waitlist placements as required.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance & Nutrition Coordinator to plan for group refreshments.
- Set up, arrange refreshments, and clean up after every group session.
- Facilitate the completion of satisfaction surveys at the end of each 10-week group series, always ensuring confidentiality.
- Provide feedback on the group to the TPSP (successes, areas for improvement - what went well, what needs to change, etc.)
- Arrange for language interpretation as required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Training will be provided.
- Experienced Intimate Partner Violence.
- Committed to intersectional feminist principles.
- Desire to improve services and reduce barriers for survivors of violence.
- Excellent personal boundaries and commitment to self-care.
- At least 2 years along in your healing journey.
This position requires listening to and supporting those who are beginning their recovery from violence. It is imperative that the Peer Support Facilitator is able to hear stories of violence and provide support without causing significant harm and/or setbacks to their own recovery.
Although the Peer Support Facilitator will have access to supportive supervision, they must be aware of their own triggers and have significant supports in place for their own wellness.
ASSETS
- Knowledge of available support resources and systems navigation.
- Previous group facilitation experience.
- Experience in curriculum design.
- Experience in crisis management.
- Familiarity with cultural differences related to trauma.
COMPENSATION & HOURS
- 3-4 hours weekly for 10 weeks, three times per year
- Two training days of 7 hours before the start of the first session.
- $26.77 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
