Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Working Electrical Foreman / Journeyperson Electrician to take responsibility for an electrical construction project from drawing review through completion.
This is a hands-on working position—not a supervision-only role. The successful candidate will personally perform electrical installation work while planning the project and directing an electrical apprentice when assistance is required.
We are not hiring a separate foreman and journeyperson electrician for this project. The person hired must be capable of working independently, completing the installation, and supervising an apprentice at the same time.
The ideal candidate can read construction drawings, prepare material takeoffs, plan the installation, order or request materials, coordinate site activities, and complete the electrical work with limited office supervision.
Responsibilities
- Personally perform electrical installation and construction work
- Install conduit, cable, wiring, panels, fixtures, equipment and electrical devices
- Complete terminations, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications and schedules
- Review relevant architectural and mechanical drawings
- Identify drawing conflicts, missing information and site discrepancies
- Prepare accurate material takeoffs from construction drawings
- Prepare complete material, equipment and tool lists
- Estimate labour requirements and communicate staffing needs
- Plan the sequence of work before beginning installation
- Prepare daily and weekly work plans
- Coordinate material orders and delivery requirements
- Direct, train and work alongside an electrical apprentice
- Assign appropriate tasks to the apprentice
- Inspect the apprentice’s work and correct deficiencies
- Ensure installations comply with drawings, specifications and applicable codes
- Coordinate with the general contractor, inspectors and other trades
- Attend site meetings when required
- Monitor labour hours, material usage and project progress
- Identify additional work and possible change orders
- Document changes that are outside the original project scope
- Maintain an organized, productive and safe job site
- Complete the project according to the required schedule and quality standards
- Provide regular progress updates to management
Required Qualifications
- Certified Construction Electrician/Journeyperson
- Valid Manitoba journeyperson electrician’s licence
- Red Seal endorsement preferred
- At least 5 years of construction electrical experience
- At least 2–3 years of experience as a working foreman, lead hand or electrician independently responsible for projects
- Proven ability to read and interpret commercial construction drawings
- Ability to plan and execute electrical projects with limited supervision
- Strong hands-on installation, testing and troubleshooting skills
- Experience directing and training electrical apprentices
- Good understanding of applicable electrical codes and safe-work practices
- Ability to recognize drawing conflicts and constructability problems
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, inspectors, suppliers and other trades
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to use email, PDF drawings and basic construction applications
- Valid driver’s licence
- Reliable transportation to the project site
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

Important Information About the Position
This is a working-foreman position. The successful candidate will be expected to divide their time between:
- Performing electrical installation work
- Reading and reviewing drawings
- Planning upcoming work
- Coordinating materials and site activities
- Directing and training an apprentice
- Inspecting completed work
- Reporting project progress
An apprentice will be provided when the workload requires assistance. The working foreman will remain responsible for supervising the apprentice and checking the apprentice’s work.
Pay: $45.00-$65.00 per hour
