Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Office/Activities Assistant to support our administrative team. This role involves assisting with daily office operations and activity planning. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic environment.
This is a temporary position from June 15 to August 29, 2026.
This position will support the following lodge services:
· Office/Reception Assistant with Administrative/Management Team – General Support (temporary, full-time).
· Activities Aide Assistant with Activity Services (temporary, full-time).
· Reports to Site Manager and comply with Accommodation Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code of Alberta and other relevant legislation for all Lodge departments.
Job Duties
Specific duties and responsibilities of this position shall include but not be limited to the following:
Office/Reception Assistant with Administrative/Management Team – General Support:
· Answering the telephone and relaying messages or other communications
· Utilizing office equipment – photocopying, laminating, and use of computer inclusive of software programs, typing and clerical duties
· Assisting residents with requests
· Completing receipts
· Take reasonable care to work safely and carry out duties as to not cause accidental injury to themselves, fellow employees or the public.
· Immediately report all injuries, near misses or potential hazards to direct supervisor or alternate as appropriate.
· Handling petty cash/canteen monies and accounting for same
· Receipt of deliveries/newspapers/mail
· Greet visitors, volunteers, families and contractors
· Maintain confidential resident information
· Refrain from or participate in workplace harassment and/or violence
· Always maintain and promote a safe working environment
· Awareness of role and participating in any emergency response and/or drills
· Maintain daily timesheets of tasks completed during shift, if required
· Recording of daily time records
· Ability to effectively work independently and with a team
· Provide brochures and business cards for visitors and ensure visitor sign-in/out
· Organize and maintain office

Activities Aide Assistant with Activity Services – General Support:
· Perform and lead exercises/walks for residents
· Organize and lead with Bingo and other games/activities for residents inclusive of participation
· Decorate and participate in crafts/games/activities with residents
· Assist with special projects, activities and events
· Set-up, assemble, clean-up and take down activities
· Read stories and participate in singing to or with residents
· Inventory and organization of activity supplies

Qualifications
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Problem Solving: Skilled at problem solving and being adaptive to a changing environment.
Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) on the start date of the job.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or person to whom refugee status has been conferred.
International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible.
Enrolled or planning to enroll in post-secondary.
Experience with seniors an asset.
Post-secondary technical training.
Office and/or activity experience an asset.
Speak English, Read English, Write English.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to meet the physical requirements including:
o Lifting to maximum 15 lbs.
o Carrying/transporting objects up to maximum 15 lbs.
o Bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, stretching
o Pushing and pulling up to maximum 50 lbs.
o Sitting for prolonged periods of time
Occupational Job Hazards
- Transporting of carts and dollies can cause overexertion and exposure to pinch points which may result in strains, sprains or falls, and fingers or crushed limbs or hand.
- Obstructions in walkways, including cables, boxes, crates, bins, equipment can result in trips.
- Working with employees, residents and in common areas may result in exposure to bacteria, fungi, viruses, bodily fluid increasing risk of acquiring illness and/or infection.
- Exposure to chemicals which could result in skin reactions or respiratory illness.
- Exposure to Electrical equipment, cords and outlets in common areas and resident units/rooms increase risk of exposure to burns and electrical shock.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time, repetitive manual tasks, bending and reaching can increase forces on muscles and tendons contributing to fatigue or musculoskeletal strain.

Dress Code
· Maintain a high standard of hygiene, professional appearance and be well-groomed.
· Business or smart casual attire – conservative and classic look (clean). Avoid anything that is overly revealing/provocative. No graphic t-shirts, no hoodies or excessive branding.
· Tops: A blouse, sweater, or button-up shirt that covers the shoulders and has a modest neckline. Not ripped, torn or holes.
· Bottoms: Skirts that are knee-length or longer. Slacks. Not ripped, torn or holes.
· Shoes: Flat, non-slip, low heeled that are comfortable to walk in, closed-toed shoes or runners (Flip-flops/Crocs/UGG footwear, or any version of, slippers, moccasins, are not permitted).
· Accessories: Keep jewelry simple and understated and avoid anything that makes a noise when you move.
Conditions of Employment
Anticipated employment start date is June 15, 2026
Full-time (35 hours per week). Temporary, full-time contract.
Salary: $21.00 per hour.
This position may be partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs Grant.
Eligible candidate must meet the following criteria: Between the ages of 15 – 30, Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee status has been conferred.
This position is based at Homestead Senior Citizens’ Lodge located at 5253 – 46 Avenue in Vegreville, Alberta. Work will be in person.
Work hours are Monday to Friday (exempt are statutory holidays) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with two 15-minute breaks paid and an unpaid 30-minute lunch (we provide your breakfast and lunch inclusive of beverages if you stay on site).
This position may have the possibility to lead to a permanent role.
