The District of Peachland is a vibrant and growing community of approximately 6,400 residents, located on the shores of the Okanagan Lake in the scenic Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.
We are currently looking for a motivated and energetic Water Distribution Operator II to join our team. Reporting to the Utilities Lead Hand this position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the District’s water distribution system and related infrastructure. This position also supports the water treatment plant operations as needed and plays a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of water to our community.
KEY JOB DUTIES / FUNCTIONS
- Ability to operate, maintain, and repair water distribution systems including pumps, valves, water mains, hydrants,and water meters.
- Knowledge of and ability to enforce municipal water regulations and bylaws.
- Experience performing inspections and testing as part of a Cross Connection Control Program.
- Skilled in responding to public concerns regarding water quality, pressure, leaks, and related issues with professionalism and efficiency.
- Competency in using SCADA systems and basic computer software for monitoring and reporting.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and participate in after-hours standby rotations that requireresponding to alarm calls in both the distribution system and treatment plant.
HOURS OF WORK
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduation
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- EOCP Water Distribution II Certification
- Chlorine Handling Certification (BCWWA or equivalent)
- Cross Connection Control Tester Certification
- Confined Space Entry Certification
- Post-secondary education in water quality and/or water engineering is considered an asset
This is a CUPE Local 608 position with an hourly rate of $40.07 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefits and pension plan.
