Job Summary
The position reports directly to the Environmental/Maintenance Services Supervisor and in his absence, to the General Manager. The Maintenance is responsible to perform all assigned Responsibilities in accordance with legislated and Omni standards, policies and procedures which are designed to ensure that each resident receives support, care and services in keeping with their needs and preference always with a primary focus on excellence in customer service. The role requires an essential focus on painting as a key responsibility.
Performance Requirements
- Assist the Environmental/Maintenance Services Supervisor (ESM) to ensure that the home is maintained in a good state of repair and free of any hazardous conditions. Ensure that services provided are in full compliance with all acts and regulations, Accreditation Canada, Omni policy and procedure and all other standards and legislated requirements.
- Adhere to the established reporting and recording systems; provide written and verbal reports to the ESM or General Manager as required.
- Complete repairs promptly and efficiently.
- Complete painting/wallpapering as directed.
- Complete floor and carpet maintenance as directed.
- Snow removal, sanding/salting walkways and parking areas, yard/lawn maintenance as directed.
- Maintain a clean, hazard free work area; ensure that supplies and equipment are stored in accordance with home policy and safety standards.
- Ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors; adhere to the expectation that hazardous conditions and actions are promptly corrected and reported; apply the principles and standards of Safety First, using consistency in the application of policies and procedures which have been developed to provide a safe work environment for all staff; ensure that personal protective devices are appropriately utilized.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Certification
- Minimum secondary school diploma preferred.
- Education or experience in working with these systems in building maintenance is required. Experience in carpentry work an asset.
- First aide certification or willingness to obtain
Knowledge
- Priority will be given individuals with experience in building maintenance in an institutional/health care setting.
- Must understand the basics of safety and general building maintenance.
- Knowledge of the Fire Code and Building Code an asset.
- Must be knowledgeable in the appropriate and safe use of tools, equipment and supplies required to perform the duties of building maintenance.
- Must have a basic understanding of plumbing, heating, electrical and fire alarm systems.
Physical Demands
- Twisting, bending, climbing, reaching and lifting required.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Working indoors and outdoors; may require tasks to be performed in awkward, cramped quarters.
