Position Summary
The Wound Care Nurse provides specialized wound care services to patients recovering from workplace injuries under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) program. Care is delivered in community settings, including patients’ homes, focusing on wound assessment, treatment, monitoring, and education to support recovery and safe return to work.
The nurse works collaboratively with physicians, case managers, rehabilitation teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal healing outcomes and adherence to WSIB care plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive wound and skin assessments for patients with work-related injuries.
- Develop and implement evidence-based wound care treatment plans.
- Perform wound care procedures including dressing changes, negative pressure therapy, and other advanced wound treatments within scope of practice.
- Monitor wound healing progress and modify care plans as required.
- Document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in accordance with WSIB reporting requirements and organizational policies.
- Communicate regularly with WSIB case managers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams regarding patient progress.
- Provide education to patients and families on wound care, infection prevention, and self-management strategies.
- Identify complications such as infection, delayed healing, or pressure injuries and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards and community care best practices.
- Support patient recovery goals and safe return-to-work planning when applicable.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to wound management and patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Wound care certification or specialized training in wound management preferred (e.g., Wound Care Certificate, Wound Ostomy Continence certification).
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in community care, wound care, or rehabilitation.
- Experience managing complex wounds, surgical wounds, pressure injuries, or trauma-related wounds.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for community visits.
- Current CPR certification.

Pay: $48.00-$55.00 per hour
